Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe Reviews- The recently introduced Mercedes CLE Coupe is the most recent inclusion in the brand’s worldwide range of products. It is anticipated to be available with both petrol and diesel hybrid powertrains, and it will take the place of both the C-Class and E-Class coupes. The official confirmation of this will be made nearer to the launch, which is scheduled for either the end of this year or early next year. We have already provided a comprehensive display of its exterior photos, and now we present all the other specifications through this collection of interior images.
The new CLE shares the same 112.8-inch wheelbase as the C-class sedan. Although it is slightly longer than the previous C-class coupe, it falls short of the upcoming E-class’s massive 116.6-inch wheelbase. With an overall length of 191.0 inches, the CLE sits in between the two models, while its width of 73.2 inches is closer to that of the E-class. In summary, the CLE’s dimensions position it as a credible in-between option, but it is built on the shorter wheelbase of the C-class, which is more suitable for a coupe.
Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe Reviews 2024
When trying to understand the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe, it’s easy to get caught up in comparing it to the previous C- and E-class coupes. However, the new model is not a combination of the two. It may seem confusing at first, but once you realize that both the C- and E-class sedans that gave rise to those older coupes are from 2017, their relevance becomes irrelevant.
Following that, the C-class underwent a redesign and expansion for 2022, marking the start of its fifth generation. The absence of a new coupe meant that the two-door model continued to use fourth-generation mechanicals. Likewise, the previous E-class sedan remained in production until the announcement of a redesigned 2024 E-class. Once again, no coupe was included in this update. Taking these factors into consideration, the introduction of the 2024 CLE provides insight into the changes happening behind the scenes.

When it comes to engine choices, the CLE takes its powertrains from the C-Class sedan. This means you have the option of selecting a 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder petrol engine, as well as two electrified powertrain options. The interior of the CLE is also identical to that of the C-Class sedan. The dashboard, vents, and screens in the cabin bear a noticeable resemblance to those found in both the C-Class and new GLC models.
Inside, you’ll find a 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11.9-inch portrait-style central infotainment screen, both featuring the latest MBUX software. Additionally, the CLE offers front seats with integrated speakers in the headrests, a unique feature not found in other Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The cabin is further enhanced with a 64-color ambient lighting system, which can also be seen in other recent Mercedes-Benz models.

Two Engines, One Transmission, 4Matic Only
The base CLE300 has the same upgraded turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the 2022 C300. It produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which is a 22-lb-ft increase compared to the previous C300 model. The CLE450, on the other hand, comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that generates an impressive 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines are equipped with an integrated starter-generator (ISG) that enables the 48-volt hybrid system to provide an additional boost of up to 23 horses and 151 pound-feet when needed. Although the ISG doesn’t increase the total output of either engine, it effectively reduces turbo lag and ensures seamless start-stop experiences.

The base CLE utilizes the same M254 engine as the C300 and E350 sedans. This engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that generates 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. If you choose to upgrade to the CLE450, you’ll get the M256 motor from the E450 sedan. This motor is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that delivers 375 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. Both powertrains feature an integrated starter-generator that operates on a 48-volt electrical system. The electric motor provides an additional boost of 23 hp and 148 pound-feet, which is applied at lower rpm to minimize turbo lag and improve the start/stop system’s smoothness.
Both models have power transferred to all four wheels using a nine-speed automatic transmission. This transmission includes the electric motor, power electronics, and transmission cooler, which helps in conserving space and reducing weight. Both the front and rear suspension utilize a multilink design. Additionally, the CLE450 is equipped with a stiffer sport-tuned suspension as standard, which is also available as part of the AMG package for the CLE300.

The design incorporates features from both the C- and E-class cars. The LED headlights and trapezoidal grille resemble those found on the C-class, while the full-width taillight (composed of two lights connected by a dark red trim) imitates the appearance of the E-class. The bodywork showcases Mercedes’ characteristic style, featuring sleek, flowing surfaces with defined lines along the sides and sculpted bumpers. Additionally, the grille is adorned with numerous miniature Mercedes-Benz three-pointed stars.

With a measurement of 191 inches from the front bumper to the rear bumper, the CLE is slightly longer than the previous E-class coupe and extends an additional 6.5 inches compared to the C-class coupe. The increase in length is primarily due to the overhangs, while the CLE maintains a wheelbase of 112.8 inches, which is almost identical to its predecessors. Mercedes asserts that there is more interior space in the CLE compared to the previous C-class coupe and boasts that the trunk has enough capacity to accommodate three golf bags.
A Familiar Interior
The interior of the CLE is notable for its design, materials, and the initial impression of the dual-screen layout. It is strikingly similar to the cockpit of the C300 we previously tested, which also impressed us with its interior craftsmanship. However, this similarity also brings about a sense of familiarity and frustration, as there are no visible switches or knobs. Instead, all adjustments, ranging from climate control to drive settings, must be made through the central touchscreen. Additionally, the buttons on the steering wheel are all touch-sensitive zones that appear identical.

The CLE Coupe is a two-door vehicle
The CLE is a coupe that adheres to the traditional “2+2” design, featuring two doors and a second row of seats. Mercedes defines the CLE as a midsize vehicle and it utilizes the MRA Platform, which is also used in the S-Class, C-Class, GLC-Class, and E-Class models. The wheelbase of the CLE is slightly longer than that of the C-Class Coupe, while its total length exceeds that of both the C-Class Coupe and E-Class Coupe by 6.5 inches and 0.6 inches respectively.
The CLE Coupe by Mercedes-Benz will be available with two engine options that feature “mild-hybrid” technology. The first option is the CLE 350 4MATIC, which is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The second option is the CLE 450 4MATIC, which boasts a 3.0-liter inline-six engine delivering 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both models come with a standard all-wheel-drive system and a 9-speed automatic transmission. While the possibility of AMG versions in the future exists, no official confirmation has been made yet.
