The new X Trail is equipped with a 2 liter four cylinder DOHC diesel engine which generates a power of 150 bhp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm at 2000 rpm. This is mated to a six speed manual gearbox as in the older version. However, the new model will also offer an option of a CVT gearbox. This powerful engine has excellent pickup and the car can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 11 seconds. There is also a choice between a two wheel drive and a four wheel drive.

Mileage

The new X Trail is expected to deliver a mileage of 14.5 kmpl, though the figure has not yet been verified. This is a good performance by an SUV and is likely to be one of its major selling points.

Exterior

The weakest point of the X Trail is its exterior design which lacks the machismo and presence that can be expected in a car of this price range. The simplistically designed front bumper is flanked by rounded fog lights. Long taillights and a large bumper make the rear end look rather bulky. The result is a car that has a somewhat disproportionate look. Character lines have been added on side profiles to counteract the boxy appearance of the front portion of the car. Body colored outside rear view mirrors and door handles complete the external look of the car.

Interior

The interior of the new X Trail is far more impressive than the exterior. Good quality upholstery has been used and the dual tone creates an elegant feel. The seats can comfortably accommodate five persons and the new model gets a third row of seating as well. The dashboard and instrument dials look quite attractive and the steering wheel is wrapped in the same upholstery to create a classy look. There are numerous storage places including dashboard, cup holders, ticket holders etc.
