Porsche Macan Reviews- Porsche provides three engine choices for the Macan: a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with 265PS/400Nm (Macan), a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with 380PS/520Nm (Macan S), and a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with 440PS/550Nm (GTS). All engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel drive system. In terms of performance, the base model achieves the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.2 seconds, the Macan S accomplishes it in 4.6 seconds, and the GTS reaches the same speed in just 4.3 seconds.
The Macan starts up with a bark and then settles into a smooth purr. When driven normally, the engine is refined to its maximum potential. The throttle response is excellent, and despite being a two-litre engine, there is no noticeable delay. Activating Sport mode enhances the experience by increasing the noise and speed. In fact, the throttle response becomes sharper and the gearshifts more aggressive. With the throttle fully engaged, we were able to achieve a 0-100kmph time of 6.69 seconds, which is impressive. However, it is during everyday driving conditions that the Macan truly shines. Its compact dimensions make it easy to navigate through traffic, and with its substantial 400Nm of torque available, the Macan effortlessly maneuvers into tight spaces.
Porsche Macan Reviews 2023
Despite its compact size, the Macan showcases Porsche’s exceptional packaging. Our vehicle features a full beige interior, creating an airy cabin ambiance; however, it is susceptible to dirt stains. The seats offer excellent support and the view from the driver’s seat is fantastic. With powered seats, adjusting to your preferred driving position is effortless. Nowadays, there is a common trend of sporty SUVs that are favored for their ability to provide the performance of sports cars while maintaining the practicality of SUVs.
Many of these high-performance SUVs come from renowned manufacturers such as Mercedes AMG, BMW’s M division, and Porsche, who are well-known for producing some of the finest sports cars in the world. Among Porsche’s lineup, the Macan stands out as their most compact and sporty SUV, positioned below the larger Cayenne model. This review focuses on the latest version of the Macan, specifically the entry-level variant equipped with a two-liter turbocharged petrol engine.

The Macan comes with two petrol powertrain options. The base model is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 261bhp and 400Nm of torque. Moving up the range, the Macan S features a more powerful 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine that delivers 375bhp and 520Nm of torque, while the top-of-the-line Macan GTS boasts an impressive 434bhp and 550Nm of torque. The Macan can reach 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds when equipped with the base turbo four-cylinder engine. While it is agile in city driving, those who crave speed may prefer to upgrade to the twin-turbo V-6-powered S model. In our test track, the Macan S was only a few seconds slower than the more powerful GTS, achieving a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.8 seconds.
Comparatively, the Macan outperforms the Audi SQ5 and Jaguar F-Pace S in terms of acceleration. Although it may not be necessary for an SUV to launch off the line so quickly, we certainly appreciate this feature. Quickness is crucial in a crossover with sporty ambitions, but what truly impresses us about the Macan is its overall competence on the road. It feels remarkably similar to a sports sedan, offering a wonderfully smooth and carefully controlled ride that rarely transmits jolts from the pavement to the driver.

To partially address this issue, you have the option to have the entire interior covered in leather, but Porsche requires an additional $2230 just to cover the dashboard and doors with cowhide, which aligns with their reputation for high prices. Furthermore, due to its small cargo hold and limited interior cubbies, the Macan is considered one of the least practical vehicles in its segment.
In terms of design, the Macan has undergone some changes. The front apron now features wider air intakes and a new front spoiler. On the side, there are seven different designs available for the alloy wheels. The Macan GTS comes with 21-inch alloy wheels, while other versions have smaller sizes ranging from 19 to 20 inches. At the back, there is a black diffuser that has been extended upwards to enhance the stylish and sporty appearance. The LED tail lamps are accompanied by quad exhaust tips and feature the signature horizontal stripe running across the boot.

Fuel Economy & Real-World MPG

Nevertheless, during our real-world highway fuel-economy test conducted at a speed of 75 mph, the Macan S achieved an average of 26 mpg, surpassing its official highway rating by 3 mpg.

Interior, Comfort & Cargo
The standard interior fittings of the Macan are disappointing for a crossover in its price range and reputation, and it can be costly to upgrade it to match the prestige of the Porsche brand. Additionally, compared to its competitors, there is less space for rear-seat passengers in the Macan. Although the power-adjustable seats for the driver and front passenger are comfortable, they are the only standard interior features that exude luxury.
