Tesla Model S 2023 →

The 2023 Tesla Model S continues to be the electric luxury sedan to beat when it comes to everything from speed and performance, to its dominant sales position in what used to be a tiny market niche.

With rivals from the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Jaguar all nipping at its heels, the 2023 Model S is no longer as lonely as it was when first introduced nearly a decade ago. Yet it remains one of the most technically advanced vehicles you can buy anywhere, at any price.

And in terms of price, the Model S doesn’t come cheap, that’s for certain. Even an entry-level model is now scratching at 6-digit territory, and a range-topping Plaid model commands anywhere from $30-$50K extra.

We don’t expect any notable changes to the 2023 Model S, in part because Tesla presently has its corporate hands full bringing other vehicles to market – namely its Cybertruck pickup and new Roadster sports car.

This means that electric driving range should remain anywhere from 350 to 400 miles, while straight-line performance rivals the world’s wildest supercars. Punch the throttle in a Model S Plaid and hold on tight, because you’ll need only about 2 seconds to sprint from 0-60 mph.

Inside, the Model S presents the driver with an aircraft-style steering yoke, not to mention a huge 17-inch infotainment screen in the middle of the dashboard. It’s futuristic, sparse, roomy, and sometimes a little lacking in the luxury trimmings you expect in a vehicle (gas-powered or electric) in this price range.

Keep in mind that Tesla Motors does not have a sales presence in all 50 states, nor is that outwardly impressive infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Smartphone devotees, you’ve been warned.

  • Elon Musk wants to make the fastest car in the world. With a 0-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 4.2 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 8.8 seconds and a top speed of over 250 mph, the all-electric Tesla Roadster is going to be that car.
  • EPA-estimated 405 miles of EV range. Touted 0-60 mph acceleration of 3.1 seconds. Dual electric motors produce 670 horsepower combined.
  • Tesla uses a 1-speed automatic transmission, meaning they only have one gear when it comes to shifting as they don’t need more than that.
  • Tesla cars are electric, meaning they do not rely on gasoline as their main source of fuel. Instead, the cars use batteries that have to be charged at home or at a designated electric charging station. Tesla drivers do not have to drive their cars to a gas pump

2023 Tesla Model S Pricing

Look for the standard 2023 Tesla Model S to have a starting price that hovers right around $100,000.

Keep in mind that Tesla’s website plays some fuzzy math when calculating a vehicle’s price. Oftentimes, the price you’re looking at takes into account what Tesla factors to be your savings from not having to purchase gasoline. Strange but true, and it can subtract thousands from the true asking price — that is until you go to order one.

At its upper echelon, the Tesla Model S Plaid trim starts at approximately $135,000, though a fully-loaded model easily reaches $150K.

That’s because we’re already seeing a handful of 2023 cars, trucks, and SUVs hit the market this spring. However, 2023 release dates can greatly vary by make and model. For example, Land Rover has already opened orders for its 2023 lineup, including the recently redesigned Range Rover.

Tesla Model S Price

It has a $94,990 starting price, making it more expensive than almost anything else in the luxury electric car segment. The Plaid trim costs $129,990. Few class rivals offer anything that costs as much as the Model S Plaid.

Tesla Model S Plaid

The Tesla Model S Plaid is available now, following Tesla’s June 10 2021 ‘delivery event’. Originally the car was set to cost $119,990, but has since been subject to price increases making it $135,990.

Which Model S does Edmunds recommend?

We recommend opting for the base Model S instead of the Plaid. You’ll get the majority of the same features found in the Plaid and a slightly longer driving range. The base Model S isn’t as powerful as the Plaid, but it still provides supercar-like acceleration. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Capability package is optional, but keep in mind that it still requires the driver’s full attention at all times and some features initially promised years ago have yet to be activated.

Tesla Model S models

[Editor’s note: The following information is based on last year’s Model S and modified from what we know about the 2023 model. We will update this section once we have complete information.] it is a five-passenger electric luxury sedan available in two trims: Model S and Plaid. Here’s what the Model S comes with, but be aware that Tesla updates the Model S on an ongoing basis rather than by model year, so additional changes may occur throughout 2023.

Model S

Standard features include:

  • EPA-estimated 405 miles of EV range
  • Touted 0-60 mph acceleration of 3.1 seconds
  • Dual electric motors produce 670 horsepower combined
  • 19-inch wheels
  • All-wheel drive
  • Adaptive air suspension
  • LED headlights and foglights
  • Tinted glass roof
  • Power liftgate
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Heated front- and second-row seats
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Satellite radio
  • 22-speaker sound system
  • Power-adjustable, heated steering wheel
  • 17-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation system
  • Driver information display
  • Rear-seat entertainment display with gaming computer
  • Wireless smartphone charging pads in the front and rear
  • Wi-Fi hotspot

Every Model S also comes with a suite of safety systems that Tesla calls Autopilot. It includes:

  • Front and rear parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
  • Blind-spot monitor (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Lane keeping system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)
  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Tesla and the car in front)
  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)

Plaid

Tesla’s top trim level, the Plaid gets maximum performance via an upgraded battery system and an additional motor but otherwise has the same features as the base model. Total output stands at 1,020 horsepower.

Edmunds’ testing shows the Plaid can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, while the EPA says it can provide up to 396 miles of range on a full charge and when equipped with the car’s 19-inch wheels. Going with the 21-inch wheels drops that estimate to 348 miles. We’ve put this latter Model S Plaid through our real-world EV range test; it made it 345 miles, which is among the longest distances we’ve observed.

Tesla’s so-called Full Self-Driving Capability option is available on the Model S. It adds nifty semi-automated driving features, including automated parking and the ability to change lanes simply by flicking the turn signal. It also adds the Summon feature, which Tesla says enables the vehicle to drive unmanned to its owner in a parking lot. Tesla also says the Full Self-Driving Capability feature will gain additional automated driving capabilities in the future via over-the-air updates.

Those buying a new Tesla Model 3 today will be waiting until September at the earliest and – depending on the chosen configuration – could be waiting until January 2023.
Tesla Delays Deliveries of Long-Range Models in U.S. (Reuters) – Tesla Inc is delaying U.S. deliveries of certain long-range models by up to a month, its website showed on Wednesday, as the electric-car maker tries to steer itself through supply-chain issues and disruptions in China operations.

Tesla Model Y is a 5 seater suv. The Tesla Model Y is expected to launch in India in December 2022. The Tesla Model Y will rival XF, Fortuner and XC60. Expect prices to start from 70.00 Lakh.
Tesla Model 3 or Y
The Model 3 easily wins on both range and performance, if you’re only looking at the numbers. But you have to sacrifice interior space as a result. The Model Y isn’t far behind in terms of both range and power, though the benefit of owning one is that you can fit a lot more stuff inside.
The Tesla Model Y is one of the first mass-produced electric SUVs to hit the market. Tesla’s electric SUV was once one of the few options in its vehicle segment. Today, the electric SUV vehicle segment is much more competitive.
