मौसल पर्व में कोई उपपर्व नहीं है, और अध्यायों की संख्या भी केवल 8 है। इस पर्व में ॠषि-शापवश साम्ब के उदर से मुसल की उत्पत्ति तथा समुद्र-तट पर चूर्ण करके फेंके गये मुसलकणों से उगे हुए सरकण्डों से यादवों का आपस में लड़कर विनष्ट हो जाना, बलराम और श्री कृष्ण का परमधाम-गमन और समुद्र द्वारा द्वारकापुरी को डुबो देने का वर्णन है।

यादवों का नाश 

कृष्ण कुरुक्षेत्र के युद्ध के बाद द्वारिका चले आए थे। यादव-राजकुमारों ने अधर्म का आचरण शुरू कर दिया तथा मद्य-मांस का सेवन भी करने लगे। परिणाम यह हुआ कि कृष्ण के सामने ही यादव वंशी राजकुमार आपस लड़ मरे। कृष्ण का पुत्र साम्ब भी उनमें से एक था। बलराम ने प्रभासतीर्थ में जाकर समाधि ली। कृष्ण भी दुखी होकर प्रभासतीर्थ चले गए, जहाँ उन्होंने मृत बलराम को देखा। वे एक पेड़ के सहारे योगनिद्रा में पड़े रहे। उसी समय जरा नाम के एक शिकारी ने हिरण के भ्रम में एक तीर चला दिया जो कृष्ण के तलवे में लगा और कुछ ही क्षणों में वे भी परलोक सिधार गए। उनके पिता वसुदेव ने भी दूसरे ही दिन प्राण त्याग दिए। हस्तिनापुर से अर्जुन ने आकर श्रीकृष्ण का श्राद्ध किया। रुक्मणी, हेमवती आदि कृष्ण की पत्नियाँ सती हो गईं। सत्यभामा और दूसरी दूसरी पत्नियाँ वन में तपस्या करने चली गईं।
