दुर्गा सप्तशती के तीसरे अध्याय में देवी ने दुरात्मा महिषासुर दैत्य का अंत किया । महर्षि मेधा बोले- ( Durga ) देवी  ने जब पराक्रमी दुरात्मा महिषासुर को उसकी सम्पूर्ण सेना सहित  मार गिराया । तब इन्द्रादि समस्त देवता अपने सिर तथा शरीर को झुकाकर भगवती की स्तुति इस प्रकार करने लगे-जिस ( Durga ) देवी ने अपनी शक्ति से यह जगत व्याप्त किया है और जो सम्पूर्ण देवताओं तथा महर्षियों की पूजनीय है । उस अम्बिका को हम भक्तिपूर्वक नमस्कार करते हैं । वह हम सब का कल्याण करे । जिस अतुल प्रभाव और बल का वर्णन भगवान विष्णु, शंकर और ब्रह्माजी भी नहीं कर सके, वही चंडिका देवी इस संपूर्ण जगत का पालन करे और अशुभ भय का नाश करे।

पुण्यात्माओं के घरों में तुम स्वयं लक्ष्मी रूप हो ।और पापियों के घरों में तुम अलक्ष्मी रूप हो । तथा सत्कुल में उत्पन्न होने वालों के लिए तुम लज्जा रूप होकर उनके घरों में निवास करती हो । हम दुर्गा भगवती को नमस्कार करते हैं। हे देवी!इस विश्व का पालन करो । हे (Durga) देवी! हम तुम्हारे अचिन्त्य रूप का किस प्रकार वर्णन करें। असुरों का नाश करने वाले भारी पराक्रम तथा समस्त देवताओं और दैत्यों के विषय में जो तुम्हारे पवित्र-चरित्र हैं उनका हम किस प्रकार वर्णन करें। हे (Durga) देवी! त्रिगुणात्मिका होने पर भी तुम सम्पूर्ण जगत की उत्पत्ति का कारण हो। हे (Durga ) देवी! भगवान विष्णु, शंकर आदि किसी भी देवता ने तुम्हारा पार नहीं पाया । तुम सबकी आश्रय हो । यह सम्पूर्ण जगत तुम्हारा ही अंश रूप है । क्योंकि तुम सबकी आदि भूत प्रकृति हो।

हे देवी! ( Durga ) तुम्हारे जिस नाम के उच्चारण से सम्पूर्ण यज्ञों में सब देवता तृप्ति लाभ करते हैं, वह ‘स्वाहा’ तुम ही हो। इसके अतिरिक्त तुम पितरों की तृप्ति का कारण हो, इसलिए सब आपको ‘स्वधा’ कहते हैं। हे देवी! वह विद्या जो मोक्ष को देने वाली है, जो अचिन्त्य महाज्ञान, स्वरूपा है, तत्वों के सार को वश में करने वाले, सम्पूर्ण दोषों को दूर करने वाले, मोक्ष की इच्छा वाले, मुनिजन जिसका अभ्यास करते हैं वह तुम ही हो । तुम वाणीरूप हो । और दोष रहित ऋग तथा यजुर्वेदों की एवं उदगीत और सुन्दर पदों के पाठ वाले सामवेद की आश्रय रूप हो, तुम भगवती हो। इस विश्व की उत्पत्ति एवं पालन के लिए तुम वार्त्ता के रूप में प्रकट हुई हो । और तुम सम्पूर्ण संसार की पीड़ा हरने वाली हो । हे देवी! जिससे सारे शास्त्रों को जाना जाता है, वह मेधाशक्ति तुम ही हो । और दुर्गम भवसागर से पार करने वाली नौका भी तुम ही हो।

लक्ष्मी रूप से विष्णु भगवान के हृदय में निवास करने वाली और भगवान महादेव द्वारा सम्मानित गौरी देवी तुम ही हो । मन्द मुस्कान वाले, निर्मल पूर्णचन्द बिम्ब के समान और उत्तम, सुवर्ण की मनोहर कांति से कमनीय तुम्हारे मुख को देखकर भी महिषासुर क्रोध में भर गया, यह बड़े आश्चर्य की बात है । और हे देवी! तुम्हारा यही मुख जब क्रोध से भर गया तो उदयकाल के चन्द्रमा की भाँति लाल हो गया और तनी हुई भौंहों के कारण विकराल रूप हो गया, उसे देखकर भी महिषासुर के शीघ्र प्राण नहीं निकल गये, यह उससे भी बड़े आश्चर्य की बात है। आपके कुपित मुख के दर्शन करके भला कौन जीवित रह सकता है । हे देवी! तुम हमारे कल्याण के लिए प्रसन्न होओ! आपके प्रसन्न होने से इस जगत का अभ्युदय होता है । और जब आप क्रुद्ध हो जाती हैं तो कितने ही कुलों का सर्वनाश हो जाता है। यह हमने अभी-अभी जाना है,कि जब तुमने महिषासुर की बहुत बड़ी सेना को देखते-2 मार दिया है।

हे देवी! सदा अभ्युदय (प्रताप) देने वाली तुम जिस पर प्रसन्न हो जाती हो, वही देश में सम्मानित होते हैं, उनके धन यश की वृद्धि होती है। उनका धर्म कभी शिथिल नहीं होता है और उनके यहाँ अधिक पुत्र-पुत्रियाँ और नौकर होते हैं। हे देवी! तुम्हारी कृपा से ही धर्मात्मा पुरुष प्रतिदिन श्रद्धापूर्वक यज्ञ करता है और धर्मानुकूल आचरण करता है और उसके प्रभाव से स्वर्गलोक में जाता है क्योंकि तुम तीनों लोकों में मनवाँछित फल देने वाली हो। हे माँ दुर्गे! तुम स्मरण करने पर सम्पूर्ण जीवों के भय नष्ट कर देती हो और स्थिर चित्त वालों के द्वारा चिन्तन करने पर उन्हें और अत्यन्त मंगल देती हो। हे दारिद्रदुख नाशिनी (Durga ) देवी! तुम्हारे सिवा दूसरा कौन है, तुम्हारा चित्त सदा दूसरों के उपकार में लगा रहता है।

हे देवी! तुम शत्रुओं को इसलिए मारती हो कि उनके मारने से दूसरों को सुख मिलता है। वह चाहे नरक में जाने के लिए चिरकाल तक पाप करते रहे हों, किन्तु तुम्हारे साथ युद्ध करके सीधे स्वर्ग को जायें । इसीलिए तुम उनका वध करती हो, इसमें भी शत्रुओ का भला ही करती हो । हे देवी! क्या तुम दृश्टिपात मात्र से समस्त असुरो को भस्म नहीं कर सकती? अवश्य ही कर सकती हो! किन्तु तुम्हारा शत्रुओं को शस्त्रों के द्वारा मारना इसलिए है कि शस्त्रों के द्वारा मरकर वे सीधे स्वर्ग को जावें। इस तरह से हे देवी! उन शत्रुओं के प्रति भी तुम्हारा विचार उत्तम है।

हे देवी! तुम्हारे उग्र खड्ग की चमक से और त्रिशूल की नोंक की कांति की किरणों से असुरों की आँखें फूट नहीं गई। उसका कारण यह था कि वे किरणों से शोभायमान तुम्हारे चन्द्रमा के समान आनन्द प्रदान करने वाले सुन्दर मुख को देख रहे थे। हे देवी! तुम्हारा शील बुरे वृतान्त को दूर करने वाला है और सबसे अधिक तुम्हारा रूप है, जो न तो कभी चिन्तन में आ सकता है और न जिसकी दूसरों से कभी तुलना ही हो सकती है। तुम्हारा बल व पराक्रम शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला है। इस तरह तुमने शत्रुओं पर भी दया प्रकट की है। हे देवी! तुम्हारे बल की किसके साथ बराबरी की जा सकती है । तथा शत्रुओं को भय देने वाला इतना सुन्दर रूप भी और किस का है?

हृदय में कृपा और युद्ध में निष्ठुरता ये दोनों बातें तीनों लोकों में केवल तुम्हीं में देखने में आई है। हे माता! युद्ध भूमि में शत्रुओं को मारकर तुमने उन्हें स्वर्ग लोक में पहुँचाया है। इस तरह तीनों लोकों की तुमने रक्षा की है तथा उन उन्मत्त दैत्यों से जो हमें भय था उसको भी तुमने दूर किया है  । तुमको हमारा नमस्कार है। हे देवी! तुम शूल तथा खड्ग से हमारी रक्षा करो । तथा घण्टे की ध्वनि और धनुष की टंकोर से भी हमारी रक्षा करो। हे चण्डिके! आप अपने शूल को घुमाकर पूर्व, पश्चिम, उत्तर तथा दक्षिण दिशा में हमारी रक्षा करो। तीनों लोकों में जो तुम्हारे सौम्य रूप हैं तथा घोर रुप हैं, उनसे हमारी रक्षा करो । तथा इस पृथ्वी की रक्षा करो। हे अम्बिके! आपके कर-पल्लवों में जो खड्ग, शूल और गदा आदि शस्त्र शोभा पा रहे हैं, उनसे हमारी रक्षा करो।

महर्षि मेधा बोले कि इस प्रकार जब सब देवताओं ने जगत माता भगवती की स्तुति की और नन्दवन के पुष्पों तथा गन्ध अनुलेपों द्वारा उनका पूजन किया और फिर सबने मिलकर जब सुगंधित व दिव्य धूपों द्वारा उनको सुगन्धि निवेदन की, तब देवी ने प्रसन्न होकर कहा-हे देवताओं! तुम सब मुझसे मनवाँछित वर माँगो। देवता बोले-हे भगवती! तुमने हमारा सम्पूर्ण कार्य कर दिया । अब हमारे लिए कुछ भी माँगना बाकी नहीं रहा । क्योंकि तुमने हमारे शत्रु महिषासुर को मार डाला है। हे महेश्वरि! तुम इस पर भी यदि हमें कोई वर देना चाहती हो तो बस इतना वर दो कि जब-जब हम आपका स्मरण करें, तब-तब आप हमारी विपत्तियों को हरण करने के लिए हमें दर्शन दिया करो। हे अम्बिके! जो कोई भी तुम्हारी स्तुति करे, तुम उनको वित्त समृद्धि और वैभव देने के साथ ही उनके धन और स्त्री आदि सम्पत्ति बढ़ावे और सदा हम पर प्रसन्न रहें।

महर्षि मेधा बोले-हे राजन्! देवताओं ने जब जगत के लिए तथा अपने लिये इस प्रकार प्रश्न किया तो देवी ने “तथास्तु”  कहा । और यह कहकर देवी अन्तर्धान हो गई। हे भूप! जिस प्रकार तीनों लोकों का हित चाहने वाली यह भगवती देवताओं के शरीर से उत्पन्न हुई थी, वह सारा वृतान्त मैने तुझसे कह दिया है और इसके पश्चात दुष्ट असुरों तथा शुम्भ निशुम्भ का वध करने और सब लोकों की रक्षा करने के लिए जिस प्रकार गौरी, देवी के शरीर से उत्पन्न हुई थी वह सारा व्रतान्त मैं यथावत वर्णन करता हूँ। पाँचवा अध्याय पढने के लिए यहाँ क्लिक करें ।

Apart from this, you are the cause of the satiety of fathers, hence everyone calls you ‘Swadha’. O, Goddess! The knowledge which is to give salvation, which is the unthinkable Mahagyana, the form, the subduing of the essence of the elements, the one who removes all the faults, the one who desires salvation, the one who exercises munijan is you. You are speech And you are Bhagwati, as a shelter of the Rig and Yajurvedas without fault and the Samaveda with the recitation of the hymns and beautiful verses. You have appeared in the form of dialogue for the origin and practice of this world. And you are going to defeat the suffering of the whole world. O, Goddess! With whom all the scriptures are known, it is you who has the power. And you are also the boat crossing the inaccessible Bhavnagar.

You are the Goddess of Goddess Lakshmi residing in the heart of Lord Vishnu and honored by Lord Mahadev. Their religion is never relaxed and they have more sons and daughters and servants. O, Goddess! By your grace, a godly man performs a devotional sacrifice daily and conducts religiously and through his influence, enters heaven because you are going to give the desired results in the three worlds. O Mother Durga! When you remember, you destroy the fear of all living beings and give them more vigor when they are thinking about those who are of a stable mind. O Daridradukh Nashini Devi! Who else is there other than you, your mind always stays in favor of others?

O, Goddess! You kill enemies because they kill others. He may have been sinning for eternity to go to hell, but go to heaven directly by fighting with you. That is why you kill them, in this also you do good to enemies. O, Goddess! Can you not consume all the asuras by mere sight? You can definitely do it! But to kill your enemies with weapons is because they die directly by going to heaven. In this way, O Goddess! Your attitude towards those enemies is also good.

O, Goddess! The eyes of the Asuras did not erupt with the glow of your fiery pillar and the rays of the radius of the tip of the trident. The reason for that was that they were looking at the beautiful face which gave pleasure like your moon, glowing with rays. O, Goddess! Your modesty is about to remove bad accounts and most of all your form, which can neither come into thought nor can be compared to others. Your strength and might are going to destroy enemies. In this way, you have shown kindness to enemies. O, Goddess! With whom can your strength be matched? And who else has such a beautiful form that gives fear to enemies?

Kindness in heart and ruthlessness in war, both of these things have been seen only in you in the three worlds. Hey mother By killing the enemies on the battlefield, you have brought them to heaven. In this way, you have protected the three worlds and those

You have overcome the fear which we feared from the demons. We greet you. O, Goddess! You protect us from colic and pillar. And also protect us from the sound of the bell and the bow of the bow. Hey Chandike! You rotate your body and protect us in the east, west, north, and south direction. In the three worlds, your benign forms and abject forms, protect us from them. And protect this earth. Hey Ambika! Protect us from weapons like khadi, shul, and mace, which are found in your taxpayers.

Whoever praises you, along with giving them finances, prosperity and splendor, increases their wealth and wealth, etc. and always be happy on us.
