(शुम्भ वध)
जय माँ Durga तेरी सदा ही जय हो ।
Durga सप्तशती के नवम अध्याय में निशुम्भ असुर का अंत पढ़ा ।महर्षि मेधा ने कहा-हे राजन्! अपने प्राणों से प्यारे भाई निशुम्भ को मरा हुआ तथा सेना को नष्ट हुई देखकर क्रोध में भरकर दैत्यराज शुम्भ कहने लगा-दुष्ट दुर्गे! तू अहंकार से गर्व मत कर । क्योंकि तू दूसरों के बल पर लड़ रही है। (Durga)देवी ने कहा-हे दुष्ट! देख मैं तो अकेली ही हूँ। इस संसार में मेरे सिवा दूसरा कौन है? यह सब मेरी शक्तियाँ हैं। देख, यह सब की सब मुझ में प्रविष्ट हो रही हैं। इसके पश्चात ब्राह्मणी आदि सब देवियाँ उस देवी के शरीर में लीन हो गई । और देवी अकेली रह गई तब (Durga)देवी ने कहा-मैं अपनी ऎश्वर्य शक्ति से अनेक रूपों में यहाँ उपस्थित हुई थी। उन सब रूपों को मैंने समेट लिया है । अब अकेली ही यहाँ खड़ी हूँ, तुम भी यहीं ठहरो। महर्षि मेधा ने कहा-तब देवताओं तथा राक्षसों के देखते-2 देवी तथा शुम्भ में भयंकर युद्ध होने लगा। अम्बिका देवी ने सैकड़ों अस्त्र-शस्त्र छोड़े । उधर दैत्यराज ने भी भयंकर अस्त्रों का प्रहार आरम्भ कर दिया। देवी के छोड़े हुए सैकड़ो अस्त्रों को दैत्य ने अपने अस्त्रों द्वारा काट डाला । इसी प्रकार शुम्भ ने जो अस्त्र छोड़े उनको देवी ने अपनी भयंकर हुँकार के द्वारा ही काट डाला।
दैत्यराज शुम्भ ने जब सैकड़ो बाण छोड़कर देवी को ढक दिया, तो क्रोध में भरकर देवी ने अपने बाणों से उसका धनुष नष्ट कर डाला। धनुष कट जाने पर दैत्येन्द्र ने शक्ति चलाई लेकिन देवी ने उसे भी काट कर फेंक दिया । फिर दैत्येन्द्र चमकती हुई ढाल लेकर देवी की ओर दौड़ा किन्तु जब वह देवी के समीप पहुँचा तो देवी ने अपने तीक्ष्ण वाणों से उसकी चमकने वाली ढाल को भी काट डाला । फिर दैत्येन्द्र का घोड़ा मर गया, रथ टूट गया, सारथी मारा गया तब वह भयंकर मुद्गर लेकर देवी पर आक्रमण करने के लिए चला । किन्तु देवी ने अपने तीक्ष्ण बाणों से उसके मुद्गर को भी काट दिया। इस पर दैत्य ने क्रोध में भरकर देवी की छाती में बड़े जोर से एक मुक्का मारा । दैत्य ने जब देवी को मुक्का मारा तो देवी ने भी उसकी छाती में जोर से एक थप्पड़ मारा । थप्पड़ खाकर पहले तो दैत्य पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा । किन्तु तुरन्त ही वह उठ खड़ा हुआ फिर वह देवी को पकड़ कर आकाश की ओर उछला और वहाँ जाकर दोनों में युद्ध होने लगा । वह युद्ध ऋषियों और देवताओं को आश्चर्य में डालने वाला था।

देवी आकाश में दैत्य के साथ बहुत देर तक भयंकर युद्ध करती रही । फिर देवी ने उसे आकाश में घुमाकर पृथ्वी पर गिरा दिया। दुष्टात्मा दैत्य पुन: उठकर देवी को मारने के लिए दौड़ा । तब उसको अपनी ओर आता हुआ देखकर देवी ने उसकी छाती विदीर्ण कर के उसको पृथ्वी पर पटक दिया। देवी के त्रिशूल से घायल होने पर उस दैत्य के प्राण पखेरू उड़ गए और उसके मरने पर समुद्र, द्वीप, पर्वत और पृथ्वी सब काँपने लग गये। तदनन्तर उस दुष्टात्मा के मरने से सम्पूर्ण जगत प्रसन्न व स्वस्थ हो गया । तथा आकाश निर्मल हो गया। पहले जो उत्पात सूचक मेघ और उल्कापात होते थे वह सब शान्त हो गये। उसके मारे जाने पर नदियाँ अपने ठीक मार्ग से बहने लगी। सम्पूर्ण देवताओं का हृदय हर्ष से भर गया ।और गन्धर्वियाँ सुन्दर गान गाने लगी। गन्धर्व बाजे बजाने लगे और अप्सराएँ नाचने लगी । पपवित्र वायु बहने लगी । सूर्य की कांति स्वच्छ हो गई । यज्ञशालाओं की बुझी हुई अग्नि अपने आप प्रज्वलित हो उठी तथा चारों दिशाओं में शांति फैल गई।

Jai Maa Durga Thy always hail. In the ninth chapter of Durga Saptashati read the end of Nishumbha Asura. Maharishi Medha said – O Rajan! Seeing the beloved brother Nishumbh dead from his life and seeing the army destroyed, the demon king Shumbha started saying in anger and wicked Durga! Do not be proud of your ego. Because you are fighting on the strength of others. Goddess said – O wicked! See, I am alone. Who else is there in this world except me? These are all my powers. See, all of these are entering me. After this, all the goddesses like Brahmani got absorbed in the body of that goddess. And the goddess was left alone when the goddess said – I was present here in many forms with my divine power. I have absorbed all those forms. Now I am standing here alone, you too stay here. Maharishi Medha said – Then, in the view of gods and demons, there was a fierce war in the Goddess and Shumbha. Ambika Devi left hundreds of weapons. On the other hand, the demon king also started striking fierce weapons. The monster cut hundreds of weapons left of the goddess with his weapons. Similarly, the weapons which Shumbha left behind, were cut off by the goddess with her fierce cry.
When the demon king Shumbha left hundreds of arrows and covered the goddess, in anger, the goddess destroyed her bow with her arrows. When the bow was cut, Daityendra wielded power but the goddess also cut it and threw it. Then Daityendra ran towards the goddess with a shining shield, but when he reached near the goddess, the goddess also cut her shining shield with her sharp arms. Then Datyendra’s horse died, the chariot broke, the charioteer was killed, then he went to attack the goddess with a fierce mudgar. But Devi also cut her mudgar with her sharp arrows. On this, the monster furiously punched the goddess with a big punch in her chest. When the monster punched the goddess, the goddess also slapped him vigorously in his chest. After slapping, the monster first fell on the earth. But immediately he stood up and then he caught the goddess and sprang towards the sky and started fighting there. He was about to surprise the war sages and gods.
Goddess kept fighting fiercely with the monster in the sky for a long time. The goddess then spun her in the sky and dropped them to the earth. The evil demon rose again and ran to kill the goddess. Then seeing her coming towards her, the goddess dislodged her chest and slammed her on the earth. When the goddess was injured by the trident, the monster’s soul flew away and when he died, the sea, islands, mountains, and earth all started shivering. Subsequently, the whole world became happy and healthy after the demon’s death. And the sky became clear. The clouds and meteor showers that were there earlier were all peaceful. When he was killed, the rivers started flowing through their right path. The hearts of all the gods were filled with joy and Gandharvas started singing beautiful songs. Gandharva started playing instruments and the apsaras started dancing. The holy air started flowing. Sun’s radian became clean.
