(निशुम्भ वध)
जय माँ Durga तेरी सदा ही जय हो ।
Durga सप्तशती के आठवे अध्याय में महादैत्य रक्तबीज का (Durga)देवी द्वारा अंत पढ़ा ।राजा ने महर्षि मेधा से कहा-हे ऋषिराज! आपने रक्तबीज के वध से संबंध रखने वाला वृतान्त मुझे सुनाया। अब मैं रक्तबीज के मरने के पश्चात क्रोध में भरे हुए शुम्भ व निशुम्भ ने जो कर्म किया, वह सुनना चाहता हूँ। महर्षि मेधा ने कहा-रक्तबीज के मारे जाने पर शुम्भ और निशुम्भ को बड़ा क्रोध आया और अपनी बहुत बड़ी सेना का इस प्रकार सर्वनाश होते देखकर निशुम्भ (Durga)देवी पर आक्रमण करने के लिए दौड़ा, उसके साथ बहुत से बड़े-बड़े असुर देवी को मारने के लिए दौड़े । और महापराक्रमी शुम्भ अपनी सेना सहित चण्डिका को मारने के लिए बढ़ा । फिर शुम्भ और निशुम्भ का (Durga)देवी से घोर युद्ध होने लगा । और वह दोनो असुर इस प्रकार (Durga)देवी पर बाण फेंकने लगे जैसे मेघों से वर्षा हो रही हो । उन दोनो के चलाए हुए बाणों को देवी ने अपने बाणों से काट डाला । और अपने शस्त्रों की वर्षा से उन दोनो दैत्यों को चोट पहुँचाई, निशुम्भ ने तीक्ष्ण तलवार और चमकती हुई ढाल लेकर देवी के सिंह पर आक्रमण किया । अपने वाहन को चोट पहुँची देखकर (Durga)देवी ने अपने क्षुरप्र नामक बाण से निशुम्भ की तलवार व ढाल दोनो को ही काट डाला।
तलवार और ढाल कट जाने पर निशुम्भ ने क्रोधित होकर देवी पर शक्ति से प्रहार किया। देवी ने अपने चक्र से उसके दो टुकड़े कर दिए। फिर क्या था दैत्य मारे क्रोध के जल भुन गया और उसने देवी को मारने के लिए उसकी ओर शूल फेंका । किन्तु देवी ने अपने मुक्के से उसको चूर-चूर कर डाला । फिर उसने देवी पर गदा से प्रहार किया । देवी ने त्रिशूल से गदा को भस्म कर डाला । इसके पश्चात वह फरसा हाथ में लेकर देवी की ओर लपका। देवी ने अपने तीखे वाणों से उसे धरती पर सुला दिया। अपने पराक्रमी भाई निशुम्भ के इस प्रकार से मरने पर शुम्भ क्रोध में भरकर देवी को मारने के लिये दौड़ा। वह रथ में बैठा हुआ उत्तम आयुधों से सुशोभित अपनी आठ बड़ी-बड़ी भुजाओं से सारे आकाश को ढके हुए था। शुम्भ को आते देख कर (Durga)देवी ने अपना शंख बजाया और धनुष की टंकोर का भी अत्यन्त दुस्सह शब्द किया । साथ ही अपने घण्टे के शब्द से जो कि सम्पूर्ण दैत्य सेना के तेज को नष्ट करने वाला था सम्पूर्ण दिशाओं में व्याप्त कर दिया।
इसके पश्चात देवी के सिंह ने भी अपनी तेज दहाड़ से जिसे सुन बड़े-बड़े बलवानों का मद चूर-चूर हो जाता था, आकाश, पृथ्वी और दसों दिशाओं को पूरित कर दिया । फिर आकाश में उछलकर काली ने अपने दाँतों तथा हाथों को पृथ्वी पर पटका, उसके ऎसा करने से ऎसा शब्द हुआ, जिससे कि उससे पहले के सारे शब्द शान्त हो गये, इसके पश्चात शिवदूती ने असुरों के लिए भय उत्पन्न करने वाला अट्टहास किया । जिसे सुनकर दैत्य थर्रा उठे । और यह देख दैत्य शुम्भ को बड़ा क्रोध हुआ । फिर अम्बिका ने उसे अरे दुष्ट! खड़ा रह!!, खड़ा रह!!! कहा तो आकाश से सभी देवता ‘जय हो, जय हो’बोल उठे। शुम्भ ने वहाँ आकर ज्वालाओं से युक्त एक अत्यन्त भयंकर शक्ति छोड़ी जिसे आते देखकर देवी ने अपनी महोल्का नामक शक्ति से काट डाला।

हे राजन्! फिर शुम्भ के सिंहनाद से तीनों लोक व्याप्त हो गये और उसकी प्रतिध्वनि से ऎसा घोर शब्द हुआ, जिसने इससे पहले के सब शब्दों को जीत लिया। शुम्भ के छोड़े बाणों को देवी ने और देवी के छोड़े बाणों को शुम्भ ने अपने बाणों से काट सैकड़ो और हजारों टुकड़ो में परिवर्तित कर दिया। इसके पश्चात जब चण्डीका ने क्रोध में भर शुम्भ को त्रिशूल से मारा तो वह मूर्छित होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा, जब उसकी मूर्छा दुर हुई तो वह धनुष लेकर आया और अपने बाणों से उसने देवी काली तथा सिंह को घायल कर दिया, फिर उस राक्षस ने दस हजार भुजाएँ धारण करके चक्रादि आयुधों से देवी को आच्छादित कर दिया, तब भगवती दुर्गा ने कुपित होकर अपने बाणों से उन चक्रों तथा बाणों को काट डाला, यह देखकर निशुम्भ हाथ में गदा लेकर चण्डिका को मारने के लिए दौडा, उसके आते ही देवी ने तीक्ष्ण धार वाले ख्ड्ग से उसकी गदा को काट डाला।
उसने फिर त्रिशूल हाथ में ले लिया, देवताओं को दुखी करने वाले निशुम्भ त्रिशूल हाथ में लिए हुए आता देखकर चण्डिका ने अपने शूल से उसकी छाती पर प्रहार किया । और उसकी छाती को चीर डाला । शूल विदीर्ण हो जाने पर उसकी छाती में से एक उस जैसा ही महा पराक्रमी दैत्य ठहर जा! ठहर जा!! कहता हुआ निकला। उसको देखकर देवी ने बड़े जोर से ठहाका लगाया। अभी वह निकलने भी न पाया था किन उसका सिर अपनी तलवार से काट डाला। सिर के कटने के साथ ही वह पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा। तदनन्तर सिंह दहाड़-दहाड़ कर असुरों का भक्षण करने लगा और काली शिवदूती भी राक्षसों का रक्त पीने लगी। कौमारी की शक्ति से कितने ही महादैत्य नष्ट हो गए। ब्रह्माजी के कमण्डल के जल से कितने ही असुर समाप्त हो गये।
कितने ही महादैत्य माहेश्वरी के त्रिशूल से विदीर्ण होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े । और बाराही के प्रहारों से छिन्न-भिन्न होकर धराशायी हो गये। वैष्णवी ने भी अपने चक्र से बड़े-बड़े महा पराक्रमियों का कचमूर निकालकर उन्हें यमलोक भेज दिया और ऎन्द्री से कितने ही महाबली राक्षस टुकड़े-2 हो गये। कई दैत्य मारे गए, कई भाग गए, कितने ही काली शिवदूती और सिंह के ग्रास बन गये । दशम अध्याय पढने के लिए यहाँ क्लिक करें ।
