दुर्गा सप्तशती पाँचवाँ अध्याय

दुर्गा सप्तशती के चौथे अध्याय में इन्द्रादि देवताओं द्वारा देवी की स्तुति पढ़ा ।महर्षि मेधा ने कहा-पूर्वकाल में शुम्भ और  निशुम्भ नामक असुरों ने अपने बल के मद से इन्द्र का त्रिलोकी का राज्य और यज्ञों के भाग छीन लिये । और वह दोनों इसी प्रकार सूर्य, चन्द्रमा, धर्मराज और वरुण के अधिकार भी छीन कर स्वयं ही उनका उपयोग करने लगे। वायु और अग्नि का कार्य भी वही करने लगे । और इसके पश्चात उन्होंने जिन देवताओं का राज्य छीना था, उनको अपने-अपने स्थान से निकाल दिया। इस तरह से अपने अधिकार छिने हुए देवता तथा दैत्यों द्वारा निकाले हुए तिरस्कृत देवता, अपराजिता देवी का स्मरण करने  लगे । कि देवी ने हमको वर दिया था कि मैं तुम्हारी सम्पूर्ण विपत्तियों को नष्ट कर के रक्षा करूँगी।

ऎसा विचार कर सब देवता हिमालय पर गये और भगवती विष्णुमाया की स्तुति करने लगे। देवताओं ने कहा-देवी को नमस्कार   है । शिव को नमस्कार है। प्रकृति और भद्रा को नमस्कार है। हम लोग रौद्र, नित्या और गौरी को नमस्कार करते हैं। ज्योत्सनामयी, चन्द्ररूपिणी व सुख रूपा देवी को निरन्तर नमस्कार है । शरणागतों का कल्याण करने वाली, वृद्धि और सिद्धिरूपा देवी को हम बार-2 नमस्कार करते हैं । और नैरऋति, राजाओं की लक्ष्मी तथा सर्वाणी को नमस्कार है । दुर्गा को नमस्कार ।  दुर्ग स्थलों को पार करने वाली दुर्गपारा को, सारा, सर्वकारिणी, ख्याति , कृष्ण और घूम्रदेवी को सदैव नमस्कार है। है ।अत्यन्त सौम्य तथा अत्यन्त रौद्ररूपा को हम नमस्कार करते हैं। उन्हें हमारा बारम्बार नमस्कार है।

जो देवी सम्पूर्ण प्राणियों में श्रद्धा रूप से स्थित है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है । जो देवी सम्पूर्ण प्राणियों में कान्ति रूप से स्थित है । उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है ।  जो देवी सब प्राणियों में लक्ष्मी रूप से स्थित है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है । जो देवी सम्पूर्ण प्राणियों में वृत्ति रूप से स्थित है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है । जो देवी सब प्राणियों में स्मृति रूप से विराजमान है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है ।  जो देवी सब प्राणियों में दयारूप से स्थित है ।उसको नमस्कार उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है । जो देवी सब प्राणियों में तुष्टि रूप से स्थित है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है ।

जो देवी सम्पूर्ण प्राणियों में मातृरुप से स्थित है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है । जो देवी सम्पूर्ण प्राणियों में भ्रान्ति रुप से स्थित है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है । जो देवी सम्पूर्ण प्राणियों में नित्य व्याप्त रहती है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है ।जो देवी चैतन्य रूप से इस सम्पूर्ण संसार को व्याप्त कर के स्थित है उसको नमस्कार है, उसको नमस्कार है, उसको बारम्बार नमस्कार है ।

पूर्वकाल में देवताओं ने अपने अभीष्ट फल पाने के लिए जिसकी स्तुति की है और देवराज इन्द्र ने बहुत दिनों तक जिसका सेवन किया है वह कल्याण की साधनाभूता ईश्वरी हमारा कल्याण और मंगल करे तथा सारी विपत्तियों को नष्ट कर डाले । असुरों के सताये हुए हम सम्पूर्ण देवता उस परमेश्वरी को इस समय नमस्कार करते हैं । तथा जो भक्ति पूर्वक स्मरण किए जाने पर तुरन्त ही सब विपत्तियों को नष्ट कर देती है, वह जगदम्बा इस समय भी हमारा मंगल कर के हमारी समस्त विपत्तियों को दूर करें।

महर्षि मेधा ने कहा-हे राजन्! इस प्रकार जब देवता स्तुति कर रहे थे । तो उसी समय पार्वती देवी गंगा में स्नान करने के लिए आई । तब उनके शरीर से प्रकट होकर शिवादेवी बोली-शुम्भ दैत्य के द्वारा स्वर्ग से निकाले हुए और निशुम्भ से हारे हुए यह देवता मेरी ही स्तुति कर रहे हैं। पार्वती के शरीर से अम्बिका निकली थी । इसलिए उसको सम्पूर्ण लोक में कौशिकी कहते हैं। कौशिकी के प्रकट होने के पश्चात पार्वती देवी के शरीर का रंग काला हो गया और वह हिमालय पर रहने वाली कालिका देवी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुई।

फिर शुम्भ और निशुम्भ के दूत चण्ड-मुण्ड वहाँ आये और उन्होंने परम मनोहर रूप वाली अम्बिका देवी को देखा। फिर वह शुम्भ के पास जाकर बोले-महाराज! एक अत्यन्त सुन्दर स्त्री हिमालय को प्रकाशित कर रही है, वैसा रंग रूप आज तक हमने किसी स्त्री में नहीं देखा । हे असुरेश्वर! आप यह पता लगाएँ कि वह कौन है ?और उसको ग्रहण कर ले। वह स्त्री स्त्रियों में रत्न है । वह अपनी कान्ति से दसों दिशाओं को प्रकाशित करती हुई वहाँ स्थित है । इसलिए आपका उसको देखना उचित है।

हे प्रभो! तीनों लोकों के हाथी, घोड़े और मणि इत्यादि जितने भी रत्न हैं । वह सब इस समय आपके घर में शोभायमान हैं। हाथियों में रत्न रूप ऎरावत हाथी और उच्चैश्रवा नामक घोड़ा तो आप इन्द्र से ले आये हैं । हंसों द्वारा जुता हुआ विमान जो कि ब्रह्माजी के पास था, अब भी आपके पास है । और यह महापद्म नामक खजाना आपने कुबेर से छीना है । समुद्र ने आपको सदा खिले हुए फूलों की किंजल्किनी नामक माला दी है । वरुण का कंचन की वर्षा करने वाला छत्र आपके पास है । रथों में श्रेष्ठ प्रजापति का रथ भी आपके पास ही है । हे दैत्येन्द्र! मृत्यु से उत्क्रांतिका नामक शक्ति भी आपने छीन ली है । और वरुण का पाश भी आपके भ्राता निशुम्भ के अधिकार में है । और जो अग्नि में न जल सकें, ऎसे दो वस्त्र भी अग्निदेव ने आपको दिये हैं।

हे दैत्यराज! इस प्रकार सारी रत्नरूपी वस्तुएँ आप संग्रह कर चुके हैं । तो फिर आप यह कल्याणकारी स्त्रियों में रत्नरूप अनुपम स्त्री आप क्यों नहीं ग्रहण करते? महर्षि मेधा बोले चण्ड-मुण्ड का यह वचन सुनकर शुम्भ ने विचारा कि सुग्रीव को अपना दूत बना कर देवी के पास भेजा जाये।

प्रथम उसको सब कुछ समझा दिया और कहा कि वहाँ जाकर तुम उसको अच्छी तरह से समझाना और ऎसा उपाय करना जिससे वह प्रसन्न होकर तुरन्त मेरे पास चली आये, भली प्रकार समझाकर कहना। दूत सुग्रीव, पर्वत के उस रमणीय भाग में पहुँचा जहाँ देवी रहती थी। दूत ने कहा-हे देवी! दैत्यों का राजा शुम्भ जो इस समय तीनों लोकों का स्वामी है, मैं उसका दूत हूँ और यहाँ तुम्हारे पास आया हूँ। सम्पूर्ण देवता उसकी आज्ञा एक स्वर से मानते हैं। अब जो कुछ उसने कहला भेजा है, वह सुनो। उसने कहा है, इस समय सम्पूर्ण त्रिलोकी मेरे वश में है और सम्पूर्ण यज्ञो के भाग को पृथक-पृथक मैं ही लेता हूँ और तीनों लोकों में जितने श्रेष्ठ रत्न हैं वह सब मेरे पास हैं, देवराज इन्द्र का वाहन ऎरावत मेरे पास है जो मैंने छीन लिया है, उच्चै:श्रवा नामक घोड़ा जो क्षीरसागर मंथन करने से प्रकट हुआ था उसे देवताओं ने मुझे समर्पित किया है।

हे सुन्दरी! इनके अतिरिक्त और भी जो रत्न भूषण पदार्थ देवताओं के पास थे वह सब मेरे पास हैं। हे देवी! मैं तुम्हें संसार की स्त्रियों में रत्न मानता हूँ । क्योंकि रत्नों का उपभोग करने वाला मैं ही हूँ। हे चंचल कटा़ओं वाली सुन्दरी! अब यह मैं तुझ पर छोड़ता हूँ कि तू मेरे या मेरे भाई महापराक्रमी निशुम्भ की सेवा में आ जाये। यदि तू मेरा वरण करेगी तो तुझे अतुल महान ऎश्वर्य की प्राप्ति होगी । अत: तुम अपनी बुद्धि से यह विचार कर मेरे पास चली आओ। महर्षि मेधा ने कहा-दूत के ऎसा कहने पर सम्पूर्ण जगत का कल्याण करने वाली भगवती दुर्गा मन ही मन मुस्कुराई और इस प्रकार कहने लगी। देवी ने कहा-हे दूत! तू जो कुछ कह रहा है वह सत्य है । और इसमें किंचित्मात्र भी झूठ नहीं है शुम्भ इस समय तीनों लोकों का स्वामी है । और निशुम्भ भी उसी की तरह पराक्रमी है । किन्तु इसके संबंध में मैं जो प्रतिज्ञा कर चुकी हूँ उसे मैं कैसे झुठला सकती हूँ? अत: तू, मैंने जो प्रतिज्ञा की है उसे सुन।

जो मुझे युद्ध में जीत लेगा और मेरे अभिमान को खण्डित करेगा तथा बल में मेरे समान होगा, वही मेरा स्वामी होगा। इसलिए शुम्भ अथवा निशुम्भ यहाँ आवे और युद्ध में जीतकर मुझसे विवाह कर ले । इसमें भला देर की क्या आवश्यकता है! दूत ने कहा-हे देवी! तुम अभिमान में भरी हुई हो, मेरे सामने तुम ऎसी बात न करो। इस त्रिलोकी में मुझे तो ऎसा कोई दिखाई नहीं देता जो कि शुम्भ और निशुम्भ के सामने ठहर सके। हे देवी! जब अन्य देवताओं में से कोई शुम्भ व निशुम्भ के सामने युद्ध में ठहर नहीं सकता तो तुम जैसी स्त्री उनके सामने रणभूमि में कैसे ठहर सकेगी?

जिन शुम्भ आदि असुरों के सामने इन्द्र आदि देवता नहीं ठहर सके तो फिर तुम अकेली स्त्री उनके सामने कैसे ठहर सकेगी? अत: तुम मेरा कहना मानकर उनके पास चली जाओ । अन्यथा  जब वह तुम्हें केश पकड़कर घसीटते हुए ले जाएंगे तो तुम्हारा गौरव नष्ट हो जाएगा । इसलिए मेरी बात मान लो। देवी ने कहा-जो कुछ तुमने कहा ठीक है। शुम्भ और निशुम्भ बड़े बलवान है लेकिन मैं क्या कर सकती हूँ ? क्योंकि मैं बिना विचारे प्रतिज्ञा कर चुकी हूँ । इसलिए तुम जाओ और मैंने जो कुछ भी कहा है वह सब आदरपूर्वक असुरेन्द्र से कह दो । इसके पश्चात जो वह उचित समझे करें। छठा अध्याय पढने के लिए यहाँ क्लिक करें ।

In the elephants, you have brought a horse named Ravat Elephant and a horse named Uchhasrava from Indra. The plane which was possessed by the swans, which was with Brahmaji, is still with you. And you have taken this treasure called Mahapadma from Kubera. The sea has given you a garland called Kinjalkini of flowers in perpetual bloom. You have Varun’s rain shower umbrella. You also have the chariot of the best Creator in chariots. Hey Daityendra! You have taken away the power called Utkrantika from death. And Varuna’s loop is also in the possession of your brother Nishumbh. And Agnidev has given you two such clothes which cannot burn in the fire.

Hey, monster In this way you have collected all the gemstones items. Then why do not you accept this unique woman as a gemstone in your welfare women? On hearing this promise of Maharishi Medha Chand-Mund, Shumbha considered that Sugriva should be sent as an envoy and sent to the goddess.

Hey babe! Apart from these, I have all the other jewels which were possessed by the gods. O, Goddess! I consider you a gem in the women of the world. Because I am the one who consumes gems. Hey, playful cutie babe! Now I leave it to you to come to the service of my or my brother Mahaprakrami Nishumbh. If you can remember me, you will have great blessings. Therefore, considering this with your intellect, come to me. Maharishi Medha said – Bhagwati Durga, who used to do welfare of the entire world, smiled and said thus. Goddess said – O messenger! Everything you are saying is true. And there is not even a small lie in this, Shumbha is the lord of the three worlds at this time. And Nishumbha is as powerful as that. But how can I deny the promise I have made in this regard? So, listen to the promise I made.

Whoever will win me in battle and break my pride and be like me in force, he will be my master. Therefore Shumbha or Nishumbh come here and win the war and marry me. What is the need for a delay in this? The angel said – O Goddess! You are filled with pride, don’t talk like that in front of me. In this trilogy, I do not see anyone who can stand in front of Shumbha and Nishumbh. O, Goddess! When none of the other gods can stay in battle in front of Shumbha and Nishumbh, how can a woman like you stay on the battlefield in front of them?

If the Shubh etc. could not be found in front of the demons Indra etc., then how will you be able to stand alone in front of them? So, obey me and go to them. Otherwise, when he grabs you by grabbing his hair, your pride will be destroyed. So listen to me. Devi said – whatever you said is fine. Shumbha and Nishumbh are very strong, but what can I do?
