नारायण मंत्र दिया नारद ने ध्रुव को ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’
राजा उत्तानपाद की दो रानियां थीं ।
बड़ी रानी का नाम सुनीति और छोटी रानी का नाम सुरुचि था । सुनीति के पुत्र का नाम ध्रुव था और सुरुचि के पुत्र का नाम उत्तम । राजा छोटी रानी और उसके पुत्र से विशेष स्नेह रखते थे , बेचारी सुनीति और बेटे ध्रुव की हमेशा उपेक्षा होती थी ।
महल की परिचारिकाएं भी सुरुचि से प्रसन्न नहीं रहती थी । वे प्रायः घृणा से उसकी ओर देखती और बोलती “देखो, वो आ रही है रानि सुरुचि ।”
“देखो तो कैसी अकड़ है, इसका तो बस एक ही लक्ष्य है कि किसी तरह से इनके पुत्र उत्तम को ही राजगद्दी मिले ।”
सुरुचि अपने बेटे के पास गई तो वह बोला – ‘माँ ! इस समय पिताजी खाली बैठे हैं । मैं जाकर उनकी गोदी मे बैठ जाऊं ।’
‘जरूर बैठो मेरे मुन्ने ! होने वाले राजा का उस गोद पर पूरा अधिकार है ।’ सुरुचि ने बेटे के सिर पर प्रेम से हाथ फिराते हुए कहा ।
ध्रुव ने उत्तम को पिता की गोद मे बैठे देखा, तो वह भी उधर ही भागा और बोला- ‘पिताजी , मैं भी आपकी गोद मे बैठुंगा ।’
सुरुचि ने उसे झिड़का – ‘हरगिज नहीं ! तुझे उस गोद मे बैठने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है । भाग जाओ यहां से ।’
‘मैं कहांँ जाऊं, छोटी माँ ।’ कल्पित होकर रुंआसे स्वर मे ध्रुव ने पूछा ।
‘जा , भगवान विष्णु से प्रार्थना कर कि तुझे मेरी कोख से जन्म दें तभी तू उत्तम की तरह अधिकार पा सकेगा ।’
दुखी ध्रुव , बिलखता हुआ अपनी माँ के पास पहुंँचा । माँ ने उसे गोद मे उठाकर प्यार से पूछा ‘रो क्यो रहा है मेरे लाल ?’
ध्रुव बोला- “माँ, माता सुरुचि कहती हैं कि पिता जी की गोद में बैठने का मुझे कोई अधिकार नहीं है। वे कहती हैं कि केवल उत्तम ही पिता की गोद में बैठ सकता है।”
“वे ठीक कहती हैं, पुत्र!” सुनीति बोली और बेटे को कलेजे से लगाए भीतर ले गई। ध्रुव ने पूछा-‘माँ, मैं तो क्षत्रिय राजकुमार हूँ ना?
हाँ, मेरे बेटे! सुनीति ने जवाब दिया।
अपनी मा की गोद में चैन से बैठा बालक ध्रुव कुछ सोचता रहा। फिर बोला-“माँ! माता सुरुचि ने कहा कि अगर पिता की गोद में बैठना चाहता हूँ तो भगवान विष्णु से प्रार्थना करनी पड़ेगी। क्या सचमुच भगवान विष्णु मेरी मदद करेंगे माँ?
हाँ, मेरे बेटे! भगवान शरणागत को कभी निराश नहीं करते। (नारायण मंत्र दिया नारद ने ध्रुव को ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
‘तब तो मैं उनके दर्शन अवश्य करूंगा।’ ध्रुव ने दृढ स्वर में कहा।
ध्रुव जब अगले दिन वन में जाने को तत्पर हुआ तो उसकी माता ने आशीर्वाद दिया, ‘जाओ मेरे लाल, उनके सिवा और कोई हमारी मदद नहीं कर सकता। उनके दर्शन कर पाना सरल बात नहीं है, किंतु तुम सच्ची तपस्या करोगे तो अवश्य सफलता मिलेगी।’(नारायण मंत्र दिया नारद ने ध्रुव को ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
‘मुझे सफलता अवश्य मिलेगी माँ। बालक ध्रुव दृढ निश्चय के साथ बोला-‘मैं जाता हूँ अब और भगवान विष्णु के दर्शन किए बिना नहीं लौटूंगा। फिर मैं अपने पिता और दादा से भी बड़ा राजा बनूंगा।’ कहते हुए वह वन की ओर चल पड़ा।

उधर, देवर्षि नारद को सुरुचि के कटु वचनों और ध्रुव के संकल्प के बारे में पता चला तो उन्होंने सोचा, ‘ध्रुव सच्चा क्षत्रिय है। अभी वह बालक मात्र ही है किंतु सौतेली माँ का दिया हुआ अपमान सह नहीं सका। पर बेचारा कैसा असंभव संकल्प कर बैठा है। चलकर उसे समझाना होगा। नारद ध्रुव के पास पहुँचे और बोले-‘बेटे! अपने भाग्य से समझौता करके अपनी माँ के पास चले जाओ।’ (नारायण मंत्र दिया नारद ने ध्रुव को ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
बालक ध्रुव ने कहा-‘हे देवर्षि नारद! मैं यशस्वी राजा उत्तानपाद का बेटा ध्रुव हूँ। मैं क्षत्रिय हूँ। मैंने भगवान विष्णु को प्रसन्न करने का दृढ निश्चय कर लिया है।’
नारद बोले-‘मुझे मालूम है, वत्स! किंतु अभी तुम बहुत छोटे हो। भगवान् के दर्शन कर पाना बहुत कठिन बात है। तुम जरा बड़े हो जाओ, तब कोशिश करना।’
ध्रुव ने कहा-‘क्षमा कीजिए देवर्षि! मैं अपना इरादा बदलने वाला नहीं। आप मेरा मार्गदर्शन कर दें तो आपकी अति कृपा होगी।’ (नारद ने दिया ध्रुव को नारायण मंत्र ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
देवर्षि नारद ध्रुव के निश्चय की दृढता से प्रसन्न होकर बोले-‘यमुना तट पर एक स्थान है-मधुवन। तुम वहाँ जाकर तपस्या करोगे तो भगवान तुम्हें जरूर दर्शन देंगे।’
ध्रुव ने पूछा-हे मुनिवर! अब ये भी बता दीजिए कि तपस्या कैसे की जाती है?’ तब नारद ने उसे समाधिस्थ होकर ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’ मंत्र का जाप करने को कहा और बोले-‘बस इसी मंत्र को बार-बार दोहराकर ध्यान लगाना।’
तत्पश्चात ध्रुव तो मधुवन की ओर चल पड़ा और नारद राजा उत्तानपाद के पास पहुँचे। राजा ने नारद का बहुत सम्मान किया और एक ऊंचे आसन पर स्थान दिया।
नारद ने महसूस किया कि राजा ने यद्यपि बड़े आदर के साथ उनका सत्कार किया है, तथापि उनका चित्त कहीं और भटक रहा है। इस पर नारद जी ने पूछ लिया- राजन, आप किस चिंता में पड़ॆ है? (नारद ने दिया ध्रुव को नारायण मंत्र ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
राजा ने कहा-‘देवर्षि! मैं बहुत नीच और स्वार्थी हूँ। सुरुचि ने कर्कश वचनों का प्रयोग कर बेचारे ध्रुव को घर से भगा दिया और मैं अभागा कुछ भी नहीं बोला। हाय, वह बेचारा अकेला जंगलों में भटक रहा होगा। नन्हीं-सी जान को जंगली जानवर फाड़कर खा जाएंगे।’
नारद ने राजा को आश्वासन देते हुए कहा-‘डरो मत राजन! स्वयं भगवान विष्णु तुम्हारे पुत्र की रक्षा करेंगे। वह तो तुम्हारे वंश का कुलदीपक है। वह शीघ्र ही लौट आएगा।’
ध्रुव मुधवन पहुँचा और एक वृक्ष के नीचे पत्थर की बनी भगवान की प्रतिमा के आगे समाधिस्थ होकर बैठ गया। उसने मन ही मन नारद के बताए मंत्र का जाप करना शुरू कर दिया। पहले महीने उसने केवल फल खाकर निर्वाह किया। (नारद ने दिया ध्रुव को नारायण मंत्र ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
धीरे-धीरे उसने फल भी छोड़ दिए और केवल घास-पात खाने लगा। तीन महीने के बाद उसने घास-पात खाना भी छोड़ दिया और सिर्फ हवा के सहारे जिंदा रहने लगा । वह निरंतर ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’ का मंत्र दोहराता रहता।
पाँचवें महीने उसने सांस भी रोक ली और एक टांग पर खड़ॆ रहकर मंत्र जाप करता रहा। ध्रुव की कठिन तपस्या की शक्ति से पवन तक रुक गया। सारे स्वर्ग में त्राहि- त्राहि मच गई। धरती के लोग व्याकुल हो उठे और भगवान से रक्षा की प्रार्थना करने लगे। स्थिति असह्य हो उठी तो सभी देवता मिल कर भगवान विष्णु के पास पहुँचे और उनसे प्रार्थना की-‘हे प्रभु, हमारी रक्षा कीजिए।’(नारद ने दिया ध्रुव को नारायण मंत्र ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
भगवान श्रीहरि बोले-‘हे देवगणॊं, इतने निराश मत हो। मैं पृथ्वी पर जाकर ध्रुव को उसका इच्छित वरदान दूंगा, तब सब ठीक हो जाएगा।
उधर, ध्रुव की तपस्या जारी थी। वह सोच रहा था, कि ‘हे प्रभु कभी मुझे लगता है कि आप मुझे मिल गए, पर तभी आप अंतर्धान हो जाते हो। क्या मेरी पूजा अभी अधूरी है? आप मुझसे रुष्ट हो प्रभु तो मैं अपना तप फिर से नए सिरे से करूंगा।’
ध्रुव ने जैसे ही आँखें खोली, उसने साक्षात भगवान विष्णु को अपने सम्मुख खड़ॆ पाया। अब तो वह हर्ष के साथ जोर से चीख उठा और उनके पैरों में गिरकर बोला-‘हे मेरे प्रभु! आखिर आपने मुझे दर्शन दे ही दिए।’ (नारद ने दिया ध्रुव को नारायण मंत्र ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
भगवान बोले-“ध्रुव, तुम मधुवन में क्यों आए हो, यह मुझे मालूम है। तुम्हारी मनोकामना पूर्ण होगी। तुम महान राजा बनोगे। तुम छत्तीस हजार वर्ष तक राज्य करोगे। फिर तुम्हें स्वर्ग में स्थान मिलेगा, जहाँ तुम सदा के लिए अमर हो जाओगे।’
ध्रुव को आशीर्वाद देकर भगवान विष्णु अपने वाहन गरुड़ पर बैठकर बैकुंठलोक चले गए। ध्रुव ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’ कहता हुआ अपने घर लौट पड़ा। (नारद ने दिया ध्रुव को नारायण मंत्र ‘ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय’)
ध्रुव के आगमन की खबर जैसे ही राजा उत्तानपाद को मिली, उन्होंने अपना रथ सजवाया और अपने पुत्र पर भरपूर प्यार लुटा दिया। फिर ध्रुव जैसे ही बालिग हुए, राजा उत्तानपाद ने उन्हें सिंहासन सौंप दिया और वे स्वयं वानप्रस्थ आश्रम में चले गए।

Narada gave Narayan mantra to Dhruva
King Uttanapada had two queens.
The elder queen was named Suniti and the younger queen was Suruchi. Suniti’s son’s name was Dhruva and Suruchi’s son’s name was Uttam. The king had special affection for the younger queen and her son, poor Suniti and son Dhruv were always ignored.
The hostess of the palace was also not pleased with the taste. She often looked at him with disgust and spoke, “Look, she is coming, Ranu Suruchi.”
“Look at the barbs, it has only one goal that somehow his son Uttam should be crowned.”
When Suruchi went to her son, she said – ‘Mother! Dad is sitting empty at this time. I can go and sit in their dock. ‘
‘Surely sit my mouth! The reigning king has full authority over that lap. ‘ Suruchi said with a loving hand on the son’s head.
Dhruv saw Uttam sitting on his father’s lap, so he too ran there and said- ‘Father, I will also sit on your lap.’
Suruchi rebuffs him – ‘No way! You have no right to sit on that lap. Run away from here. ‘
‘Where do I go, little mother.’ Dhruv asked in a rueful tone.
“Go, pray to Lord Vishnu to give birth to you from my womb, only then you will be able to have authority like Uttam.”
Unhappily Dhruva reached his mother stuttering. Mother lifted him up in the lap and asked lovingly ‘Why is my cry?’
Dhruva said- “Mother, Mother Suruchi says that I have no right to sit in father’s lap. She says that only Uttam can sit on father’s lap.”
“She is right, son!” Suniti bid and took the son from within. Dhruva asked- ‘Mother, I am a Kshatriya prince, am I not?
Yes, my son! Suniti replied.
The child Dhruv, sitting quietly in his mother’s lap, kept thinking. Then said – “Mother! Mother Suruchi said that if I want to sit on the father’s lap, then I have to pray to Lord Vishnu. Will Lord Vishnu really help me mother?”
Yes, my son! God never disappoints the refugee. ‘
“Then I will definitely see him.” Dhruva said in a firm voice.
When Dhruva was ready to go into the forest the next day, his mother blessed him, “Go, my lord, no one can help us except him.” It is not an easy thing to see him, but if you do true penance, you will surely get success.
‘I will definitely succeed mother. The child Dhruva said with firm determination – ‘I will not go back without seeing Lord Vishnu anymore. Then I will be a greater king than my father and grandfather. ‘ Saying that, he walked towards the forest.
On the other hand, Devarshi Narada came to know about the bitter words of Suruchi and the resolve of Dhruva, he thought, ‘Dhruva is a true Kshatriya. Now that child is only but could not bear the insult given to stepmother. But what an impossible determination the poor fellow is making. Will have to explain it later. Narada reached Dhruva and said – Bette! Compromise your destiny and go to your mother.
Child Dhruva said – “Oh Goddess Narada! I am Dhruva, the son of the famous king Uttanapada. I am a Kshatriya. I have determined to please Lord Vishnu. ‘
Narada said – ‘I know, Watts! But you are too young now. It is very difficult to see God. You grow up, then try. ‘
Dhruva said – ‘God bless! I am not going to change my mind. If you guide me, you will be very pleased.
Devarshi Narada, pleased with the determination of Dhruva’s determination, said – ‘There is a place on the Yamuna coast – Madhuvan. If you go there and do penance, God will surely give you darshan. ‘
Dhruv asked – O Muniver! Now also tell us how to do penance? Narada then asked him to recite the mantra ‘Un Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya’ and said – ‘Just meditate by repeating this mantra again and again.’
After that Dhruva walked towards Madhuvan and Narada reached King Uttanapada. The king respected Narada very much and placed him on a high pedestal.
Narada felt that even though the king had treated him with great respect, his mind was wandering elsewhere. On this Narada ji asked – Rajan, what are you worried about?
The king said – ‘Lord! I am very vile and selfish. Suruchi drove the poor Dhruva out of the house using shrill utterances and I did not say anything unfortunate. Hi, that poor little one must be wandering in the wild. Little animals will be eaten by tearing wild animals. ‘
Narada assured the king and said, “Don’t be afraid, Rajan!” Lord Vishnu himself will protect your son. He is the Kuldeepak of your dynasty. He will return soon. ‘
Dhruva reached Mudhavan and sat in a tomb under a tree in front of the statue of God made of stone. He started chanting the mantra of Narada in his mind. In the first month, he ate only by eating fruit.
Gradually, he gave up fruits and started eating only weeds. After three months, he also stopped eating grass and started living only by the wind. He kept repeating the mantra of ‘Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya’ continuously.
In the fifth month he also stopped breathing and kept chanting while standing on one leg. Dhruva stopped by the power of Dhruva’s hard penance. There was chaos in the whole heaven. The people of the earth got upset and started praying for protection from God. When the situation became unbearable, all the gods came together to Lord Vishnu and prayed to him, “Lord, protect us.”
Lord Shrihari said – ‘O God
Ganes, don’t be so disappointed. I will go to earth and give Dhruva his desired blessing, then everything will be alright.
Meanwhile, Dhruva’s penance continued. He was thinking, ‘Lord, sometimes I think you have found me, but only then you become impassioned. Is my worship still incomplete? You are angry with me, Lord, I will do my tenacity anew again. ‘
As soon as Dhruva opened his eyes, he found Lord Vishnu standing before him. Now he screamed loudly with joy and fell at his feet and said – ‘My lord! After all, you gave me darshan.
God said – “Dhruva, I know why you have come to Madhuvan. Your wish will be fulfilled. You will become a great king. You will rule for thirty-six thousand years. Then you will get a place in heaven, where you are immortal forever.” Will go.
After blessing Dhruva, Lord Vishnu sat on his vehicle Garuda and went to Baikunthalok. Dhruva returned to his house saying ‘Un Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya’.
As soon as the news of Dhruva’s arrival came to King Uttanapada, he decorated his chariot and lavished a lot of love on his son. Then as soon as Dhruva attained, King Uttanapada handed him the throne and he himself went to the Vanaprastha Ashram.
