2 अक्टूबर का दिन बेहद खास है । क्योंकि इस दिन देश के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री श्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री जी (Lal Bahadur Shastri) की जन्म-जयंती (2 अक्टूबर 2 October) को मनाई जाती है । लाल बहादुर शास्त्री जी (Lal Bahadur Shastri) के प्रभावशाली व्यक्तित्व का अंदाजा इस बात से लगा सकते हैं, कि विदेशों में भी उनके विचारों और निडरता की तारीफ की जाती थी ।
‘जय जवान, जय किसान’ का नारा देने वाले श्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री जी
श्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री जी ने ‘जय जवान, जय किसान’ का नारा दिया था । उन्होंने अपना पूरा जीवन गरीबों की सेवा में समर्पित कर दिया था । शास्त्री जी का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के मुगलसराय में दो अक्टूबर, 1904 को शारदा प्रसाद और रामदुलारी देवी के घर हुआ था ।

देश की आजादी में श्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री जी का खास योगदान है । साल 1920 में शास्त्री ने भारत की आजादी की लड़ाई में शामिल हो गए थे । स्वाधीनता संग्राम के जिन आंदोलनों में उनकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही, उनमें 1921 का असहयोग आंदोलन, 1930 का दांडी मार्च और 1942 का भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन उल्लेखनीय हैं । शास्त्री ने ही देश को ‘जय जवान, जय किसान’ का नारा दिया था ।

- यदि कोई एक व्यक्ति भी ऐसा रह गया जिसे किसी रूप में अछूत कहा जाए तो भारत को अपना सिर शर्म से झुकाना पड़ेगा ।
- हर कार्य की अपनी एक गरिमा है और हर कार्य को अपनी पूरी क्षमता से करने में ही संतोष प्राप्त होता है ।
- देश की तरक्की के लिए हमें आपस में लड़ने के बजाय गरीबी, बीमारी और अज्ञानता से लड़ना होगा ।
- देश के प्रति निष्ठा सभी निष्ठाओं से पहले आती है । और यह पूर्ण निष्ठा है क्यों कि इसमें कोई प्रतीक्षा नहीं कर सकता कि, बदले में उसे क्या मिलता है ।

And Also the Dandi March of 1930 and the Quit India Movement of 1942 are notable. It was Shastri who gave the slogan of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ to the country.
