About Acharya Nagarjuna University

The significance of the name Nagarjuna University comes from the fact that centuries ago, the great Buddhist preceptor and philosopher Acharya Nagarjuna founded a university on the banks of the Krishna River and turned it into a thriving centre of learning, drawing many teachers and students from all over the globe. Act 43 of the A.P. State Legislature from 1976 established the university, while Act 4 of 1991 the State Legislature governs the six state universities. The A.P. Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2004, promulgated by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, renamed the university Acharya Nagarjuna University. The current Acharya Nagarjuna University is not very far from the haloed spot because it receives its moral and intellectual sustenance from Acharya Nagarjuna.
