Screen, Display, and Design

The ROG Phone 5S has a massive 6.78″ display with a resolution of 2448x1080. It also has a peak brightness of 1200 nits, which is rather impressive. Its AMOLED panel has a refresh rate of 144hz and gives a gaming experience like no other. Normal smartphone users may not like the bezels around the screen, but considering the phone’s design protects you from mistakenly activating anything unpleasant, this was actually a positive choice. Furthermore, the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus offers all-around protection.

We were most impressed by the phone’s design. We reviewed the Phantom Black 5S model, which appears to be a custom gaming PC in the palm of your hand. The black and red colour scheme, along with the trademark ROG design on the phone’s back, looks as magnificent as ever. The rear cameras are likewise not overly hefty, with the camera slot only slightly tilting the phone when placed back down. The air triggers and I/O on the side contribute to this phone’s overall gaming style and make it a pleasure to look at.

Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset serves as the foundation for the Asus ROG Phone 5s. The performance of this Qualcomm 5nm chip is as anticipated. The Snapdragon 888+ is unquestionably a potent flagship-grade chipset that offers top-notch performance. With 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, this smartphone is excellent for gaming. It should come as no surprise that it can withstand almost anything. Our tests revealed no slowdown when switching between programmes, using several internet tabs, or shooting pictures. The smartphone can manage all of this without the need for a breather.

On the Asus ROG Phone 5s, we tested a number of graphically demanding games, including Asphalt 9, COD: Mobile, BGMI, and Genshin Impact. Asphalt 9 can be played at 60 frames per second on the ROG Phone 5s, while Genshin Impact supports continuous gameplay for extended periods of time. The Air Triggers in Call of Duty, Mobile were very touch-responsive during my time with it. You may alter how they’re set up to decide what happens when you pull the trigger. We’ll only point out that it’s normal for the smartphone to become a little heated during extended gaming sessions.

Camera

The ROG Phone 5s features a 24MP front camera, a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor, a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 5-megapixel macro camera. Personally, you wouldn’t expect much from a phone camera that has been optimised for gaming performance, but we were pleasantly pleased by what it could do. The image quality is excellent, and it can record videos in 4K 60 FPS, 4K FHD, and even 8K. While the latter may not be able to deliver exactly what it promises, the phone does an excellent job of including a competent camera in a pure gaming smartphone.

Battery life

A gaming phone will undoubtedly require a large battery that lasts longer than others. Thankfully, its 6000 mAh battery with 65W ROG HyperCharge compatibility hits the sweet spot, delivering unrivalled performance while gaming, operating it normally, and sitting idle. We even left the phone stay inactive with 100% battery backup and just let it sit there for approximately 5 to 6 days and the phone did not run out of battery. I’m not sure what will explain how good the battery is if that doesn’t.

Sound

The ROG phone 5S delivers the finest audio experience we’ve heard to far. Its dual speakers are so clear, loud, and clean that you may not need additional earphones/headsets to have a decent experience. Furthermore, the Head of ASUS’s Indian Smartphone Division informed us that the GameFX Technology is so good that “…even an audiophile, aside from being a gamer, should ideally go for this variant.” And we trust every word because the speakers are exceptional. They don’t completely eliminate the need for headphones while gaming, but they come close.

Verdict

ASUS doesn’t actually face much competition in the market right now for gaming smartphones. Technically speaking, it is the market leader in an Indian market category that is expanding rapidly. The ROG Phone 5S is one of the greatest gaming smartphones available thanks to its placement, competitive cost, and incredible gaming-friendly features. Additionally, if a casual user wants a smartphone with the highest possible specification, its long-lasting battery, excellent display, and camera make it a superb option.

Conclusion

In the middle of the year, Asus often launches a new ROG phone, but this time they have introduced a new edition or improved version of the ROG Phone 5. You should all read the Asus ROG Phone 5s review before buying the smartphone because there have been improvements made.
