Design, build quality, handling
From 8 to 9, Zenfones maintained the overall size and form factor while introducing a fresh, bold and blocky appearance. Asus makes no significant changes with the 10, and the theme is fine refinements – so subtle, in fact, that you might be hard-pressed to tell the two generations apart at a look.The design of the camera lens housings is one of those minor adjustments, with the new model opting for smaller metal rings and more glass instead. It’s not like the previous model looked horrible for it, and it’s not like the new one looks much better – it’s more of a change for the sake of change.
The polymer back cover has remained basically untouched, and it still provides ample of grip while remaining mostly fingerprint-proof (with the exception of the black colorway, which does show some smudges). ‘Premium’ may not be the first term that comes to mind, but the material and finish have character and are unlike most other alternatives on the market. It’s worth noting that Asus has reduced the amount of apparent ‘grain’ on the finish, though we wouldn’t say this has had a significant influence on grip or feel.
The cameras really protrude slightly less than they did in the previous iteration, but this is a roundabout way of saying that the phone is slightly thicker overall. The extra 0.3mm is accounted for in part by the newly fitted induction coil for wireless charging. It’s a minor distinction, but it means that cases for the Zenfone 9 are incompatible with the Zenfone 10.

Charging speed

The Xiaomi 13 and Motorola Edge 40 are a little louder, earning them a ‘Very Good’ rating.

Performance
The Zenfone 10 is powered by Android 13 with a layer of Zen UI on top. The Zen UI branding isn’t overly visible, and for Asus-specific UI features. We’re starting to see the Asus logo itself used more frequently. The term “Zen UI” appears in the promotional materials, although no specific version is mentioned. But most of that is beside the point. More importantly, Asus has promised two OS upgrades and four years of security updates. Again, it’s not the longest update policy, but it’s also not too horrible.
Camera quality
The camera system on the Zenfone 10 has undergone some tweaks, and we’re not sure how we feel about them. To begin, the back system is the same in theory – a wide main camera and an ultrawide unit. But no specific zoom module – as is to expected in a device of this size. The OmniVision OV13B sensor is use in this new ultrawide camera. Which is a 13MP imager with a 1/3.06″ optical format, 1.12m pixels, and a standard Bayer filter array. According to OmniVision’s spec sheet, the sensor itself has PDAF functionality. However it appears that this is not being utilised in the Zenfone 10’s implementation.
