Google Pixel 6A Review: The Pixel 6a, Google’s follow-up to the Pixel 5a 5G, will now be available in India. The Pixel 6a is a huge improvement over the modest Pixel 4a (Review). There are more features, a larger battery, and the flagship-grade processor has much more power. Even its appearance suggests that it is a member of the more expensive Pixel 6 and 6 Pro series.
However, its price in India and a few odd hardware selections (display, RAM, and more) that don’t exactly fit into the premium mid-range market here are concerning. Here is my opinion of the phone after using it for a few weeks and making it through the significant Android 13 update.

Despite having a hit-or-miss flagship portfolio, Google has garnered significantly better reviews for its mid-range devices. They always had a fairly straightforward value proposition: flagship camera, mid-range specs. The Google Pixel 6a is now stepping things up a notch by adding the company’s flagship Google Tensor SoC, which is also found in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, to the mix in addition to a Google-tier camera.
The screen is smaller and the camera is slightly downgraded, but it retains a lot of the positive aspects of the Pixel 6. The design is essentially the same, the 1080p AMOLED panel is still present (albeit it runs at 60Hz rather than 90Hz), and the speaker quality is about on par. You also receive Google Tensor, the system’s brain and another standout feature, as has already been stated.

Google Pixel 6A Review Price
The price of the Pixel 6a, which is Rs. 43,999 for the single 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model, is what initially catches your eye. It represents a significant improvement over the Pixel 4a (Rs. 31,999), which was introduced as more of a mid-range device. The Pixel 6a’s design has thankfully improved. It has a more sophisticated appearance than the Pixel 4a did, and India offers it in two finishes: chalk and charcoal. Unfortunately, this location doesn’t have the Sage (green) colour.

Design
The Pixel 6a holds no surprises if you are familiar with the new design Google debuted with its Pixel 6 smartphones. The same two-tone design is present on the rear, with a horizontal camera bar dividing the brighter top section from the wider muted colour. With the Pixel 6a, you may pick from Chalk, Charcoal, and Sage.
Turn the Pixel 6a over to reveal a slightly scaled-down version of the normal Pixel 6. Right down to the punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera in the top centre of the screen. The coloured power button from earlier Pixel models is something I do miss, though.

Display
I like how Google keeps using OLED panels for their more affordable Pixel A phones even though manufacturers of phones with comparable prices frequently use LCD. (Someone should write Apple a memo regarding the iPhone SE screen.) On the 6.1-inch display of the Pixel 6a. OLEDs provide deeper blacks and higher contrast, which is evident when viewing videos or playing games.
The orangish red fur of the titular panda was vividly shown on the Pixel 6a’s screen while I watched Turning Red broadcast on Disney Plus. The luxurious fur and the green nightcap worn by one of Meilin’s female friends were recreated in excellent clarity on the phone’s screen. Which is even more amazing. Although you can mute those speakers when holding the Pixel 6a horizontally to play a game, the top and bottom speakers also deliver good sounds.
The Pixel 6a’s display has far higher colour accuracy than the Galaxy A53, with a Delta-E rating that ranges between 0.25 (adaptive) and 0.2 (natural). (The colours are more accurate the closer to zero.) The iPhone SE’s percentage is 0.21%.
I particularly like how bright the Pixel 6a’s screen can get, especially after using the Pixel 5a’s somewhat modest screen. Peak brightness for the Pixel 6a with adaptive brightness enabled on was measured with a light metre at 778 nits. That was brighter than both the iPhone SE (550 nits) and the Galaxy A53 (693 nits). However, to see every detail on the Pixel 6a’s screen in direct sunlight, you might need to increase brightness.

Camera
The Pixel 6a keeps the same dual-camera configuration as the Pixel 5a, although the ultrawide angle lens’ megapixel count has decreased. The Pixel 5a has a 16MP sensor, whereas the 6a has a 12MP one. The Pixel 6a will probably let in more light when you turn to the ultrawide angle lens because the sensor itself is bigger this time. A 12.2MP sensor is still use by the primary camera.Given how Google improved the technology in the Pixel 6 series. Some people might underwhelmed by the Pixel 6a’s camera specifications. The main camera on that phone has a 50MP sensor. But the Galaxy A53, which is similarly priced, features a 64MP camera.
Performance
Google has begun producing its own chipsets to power its mobile devices, and the Pixel 6a will follow the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro last autumn in switching to Tensor. Battery
The Pixel 6a’s battery life has been a real mystery so far. The phone may use regularly for up to 24 hours, and an Extreme Battery Saver Mode can extend that to 72 hours by turning off features and suspending a lot of apps. Despite having a battery capacity of 4,410 mAh compared to 4,680 mAh on the Pixel 5a. The Pixel 6a has a larger battery.Speaking of charging, the Pixel 6a supports up to 18W of charging power. However, the adapter must be purchased separately. After 30 minutes of charging with a 15W charger I had on hand. I was able to restore a depleted Pixel 6a to 20%. The Pixel 6 would undoubtedly charge up a little bit more with an 18W charger. But probably not by more than the 46% we observed with the Galaxy A53 and its 25W charging.
Software & features
When it comes to specialised features, Tensor steals the show by giving the Pixel 6a skills typically found on more expensive smartphones. With the Pixel 6a, Magic Eraser allows you to quickly and easily delete undesired subjects and objects from your photographs. You may translate text using translation capabilities that allow you aim your camera at it. The Recorder app supports translated transcription for all languages. Even the “OK, Google” wake word on your phone is no longer necessary for some voice commands.
The first of three years of software updates Google pledges for its entry-level phone, the Pixel 6a, is already available for the Pixel 6a. Which launched with Android 12. Google’s approach, though, seems a touch stingy in a world where Samsung currently promises four Android updates for phones, including the Galaxy A53. Hopefully Google will become a little more forthcoming with its software upgrades now that it is producing its own silicon.
