Google Pixel 7 Pro 5G Review: The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro include a few software innovations in addition to the customary chipset upgrade, enhanced design, and occasional camera tweaks.Naturally, the Pro has caught our attention more than the vanilla, so we’re starting our review with it. Design
The Pixel 7 Pro has a stylish, weatherproof casing that shouts “the new Google phone” while making incremental improvements to the design of its predecessor. In fact, the device resembles a larger version of the Pixel 6a from a distance, and it has a recognisable, protruding visor towards the back, which also houses the smartphone’s triple camera setup. However, unlike the 6a, the visor of the Pixel 7 Pro is made of metal, giving the device more weight. Additionally, the 7 Pro’s visor spans the entire width of the phone, unlike a typical camera module.
It makes sense that you wouldn’t want a large metal strip to distract from the phone’s otherwise flawless design. The 7 Pro does not wobble when placed on a level surface thanks to the visor, which is a plus.
I should also mention that Google’s most recent models no longer have the dual-tone finish of their predecessors. To that end, the Pixel 7 line of phones has contrasting frames that enhance the colour saturation of the device. As an illustration, the frame and camera visor of my review unit have a golden sheen. When combined with the device’s softer pastel green-grey tint, the colour appears spectacular and the polish adds the essential pizazz. Additionally, the smartphone has an IP68 rating. The Pixel 7 Pro won’t let you down if you were seeking for a phone that could resist Delhi’s torrential downpour.
On the plus side, the phone has a quick in-display fingerprint sensor that should allow you to quickly access your home screen. Don’t worry, though; I extensively tested the sensor and it did not unlock the phone using unregistered fingerprints. Additionally, it is fantastic that the device’s facial recognition software authenticates the user really quickly. Finally, you should be aware that the phone comes with stereo speakers that are loud enough to watch films while on the go. There is no charger included with the gadget, but you will receive a reasonably long Type-C cable and a Type-A to Type-C converter in the box.

Display
Your fave TV shows and movies will look beautiful on the amazing display that comes included with the Pixel 7 Pro. The phone has a 6.7-inch OLED display with a QHD+ (1,440 x 3,120 pixels) resolution as part of its specs. Additionally, the display is supported by LTPO technology, which enables the screen to intelligently vary the refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz. When using gesture-based navigation on the phone, your fingertips won’t slide off the edges because the screen gently curls into the device’s frame. The device’s dual layering of Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and back is the cherry on top. As a result, the display ought should resist scratches and scuffs.
Regarding the picture quality, the phone’s display gives vibrant, rich colours that make watching films or videos a true delight. Additionally, the device’s OLED technology reproduces intensely dark blacks, and the panel provides excellent viewing angles. In fact, when looking at the Pixel 7 Pro’s screen at an angle, I didn’t see any significant off-axis discoloration.

Performance, Software and Battery life
Google’s most recent Tensor G2 processor lies at the centre of the Pixel 7 Pro. The more recent SoC offers a few upgrades, but it also bears many similarities to the Tensor chipset that drives the Pixel 6 series. For example, both SoCs include two Cortex X1 cores, while the ones in the Pixel 7 Pro series have a slightly higher clock speed of 2.85GHz. Furthermore, the Tensor G2 chip replaces the Cortex A76 cluster used by the original Tensor chip with two Cortex A78 cores. As a result, the Tensor G2 ought to provide marginally higher multi-threaded performance. Last but not least, the Tensor G2 uses a quad-core Cortex A55 cluster, which serves as the chipset’s small or efficiency cores, just like last year’s SoC.
It should go without saying that the Qualcomm 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which is powered by a better Cortex X2 CPU, is head and shoulders above the Tensor G2. The pudding is also the proof, as they say. Consider GeekBench, where the Pixel 7 Pro scored 1,029 and 2,942 on the single-core and multi-core test runs, respectively. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 (review), which is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, scored 1,245 and 3,597 points, respectively. With Apple’s newest and finest chipset, the A16 Bionic, scoring 1,879 and 5,412 points, respectively, the gap appears to widen. It is obvious that Google’s Tensor G2 chipset falls short of some of the top CPUs powering the rivals.
With the display set to FHD+ resolution, the Google Pixel 7 Pro’s 5,000mAh battery should last you till the conclusion of a long workday. However, if you leave the panel set to QHD+, you’ll find yourself searching for a wall outlet by nightfall. Unfortunately, the smartphone only supports wired and wireless charging at a speed of 23W, and as a result, requires a little over two hours to fully recharge. Given how quickly handsets from Motorola, OnePlus, or Xiaomi’s stables can recharge their batteries, this is extremely disappointing.
Camera
The most recent Pixel phone from Google continues the company’s tradition of making the greatest photography phones. The Pixel 7 Pro is equipped with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 48MP telephoto lens. The device has a 10.8MP front-facing camera for photos. To get to the point, the Pixel 7 Pro takes beautiful pictures in a variety of lighting conditions and lens lengths. Please take note that for photos taken at magnifications more than 10x, Samsung’s solution wins out. However, the Pixel 7 Pro outperforms comparable results at zoom levels of 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x.

Verdict
The Google Pixel 7 Pro is unquestionably costly for the starting price of Rs 84,999 in India. While the smartphone appears to be a good price, Google’s newest flagship offers more than first appears. The phone’s ‘fast-charging’ speeds are one thing I can’t support; at this price, 23W is just unacceptable. Additionally, the phone gets fairly warm even though it is a quick gadget and could keep up with my daily activities. Not to mention that the phone isn’t the fastest in its class, so you’ll get more for your money by choosing a Dimensity 9000 or Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered device.
Conclusion
Whatever the case, the Pixel 7 Pro is attractive and will draw attention from all angles. The fact that the phone is IP68-rated and coated with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus also helps. The smartphone’s screen is gorgeous, and the device’s triple camera arrangement will keep you coming back for more. The cherry on top is that the phone will also receive five years’ worth of security updates.
All things considered, the Pixel 7 Pro is not your standard Android flagship, and rather than relying on its technical prowess, the device aims to provide an unparalleled user experience. There is no disputing that the Pixel 7 Pro is a trustworthy flagship that does the majority of things right, despite the fact that there is still much space for development.
