Redmi set out to provide a performance-focused handset at a cheap price when it originally released its K Series. The Redmi K20 Series was introduced in 2019 and welcomed favourably by all. Redmi, however, was unable to improve upon the K20 series. In 2022, the company has made the decision to bring back the K series with the introduction of the K50i in India.

Design
The Redmi K50i’s 6.6″ FullHD+ Field Fringe Switching (FFS) LCD is covered in Gorilla Glass 5 (the X4 GT has an IPS LCD). The panel can only be refreshed at a rate of 90Hz or less and has a 144Hz 7-stage adaptive refresh rate and a 270Hz touch sampling rate. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are also supported by the display.
But the Redmi K50i lacks a pop-up selfie camera, unlike the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro. Its 16MP selfie camera is located inside the screen’s centre punch hole.The Redmi K50i has a polycarbonate back with a rectangular camera island and Redmi branding when you turn it over. Since the rear cover is composed of plastic. It lacks the luxury feel in the palm that a glass back would have. To make up for it, the panel has a matte finish. While effectively reducing fingerprint smudges, it occasionally rendered the phone slick.

Peak brightness for the 6.6″ LCD of the Redmi K50i is 650 nits. It supports HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG standards and includes DC Dimming. Even on the more expensive Xiaomi 12T, which runs on the Dimensity 8100-Ultra, the latter is absent. The haptic feedback on the Redmi K50i’s display is excellent. It has adaptable colours that change to match the lighting environment, and it is bright enough to read text in bright settings. However, the Redmi K50i’s screen’s fast refresh rate execution is what most pleased us.
The K50i supports seven refresh rates in total, including 30Hz, 48Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, and 144Hz, and offers options for 60Hz, 90Hz, and 144Hz in the custom refresh rate menu. Software & Performance
The Mali-G610 MC6 GPU is paired with the Dimensity 8100 SoC to support graphically demanding tasks like gaming and video editing on the Redmi K50i. The smartphone comes in memory configurations of 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB. Whichever one you choose, you get LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, which is what we got.
Software-wise, the Redmi K50i boots Android 12-based MIUI 13.0.2 Global with the June 2022 Android security patch and is presently running MIUI 13.0.7 with the October 2022 security patch, which is unfortunate given that December is quickly approaching. Some third-party apps are pre-installed on the smartphone. But fortunately, most of them can \removed at any time.The Redmi K50i’s software interface is comparable to that of other Redmi devices running MIUI 13 and Android 12.
Camera and Battery
The Redmi K50i includes four cameras: a 16MP front-facing selfie camera, a 64MP main camera on the back, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera features an f/2.5 aperture and can record movies at 30 frames per second in a resolution of up to 1080p.On the other hand, the 64MP primary camera features an f/1.9 aperture and can capture 1080p films at up to 60 frames per second and 4K videos at 30 frames per second. The macro camera has an f/2.4 aperture, while the 8MP ultrawide camera has a 120-degree FOV.
According to our tests, the battery of the Redmi K50i charged from empty to 35% in 15 minutes, 50% in 22 minutes, 64% in 30 minutes, and 100% in 53 minutes. Although the Poco X4 GT throttled far more aggressively. It took longer for a full charge (57 minutes vs. 53 minutes) and charged more quickly in 30 minutes (75% vs. 64%).
