What is National Talent Search Exam?

The NCERT hosts the NTSE scholarship program, which is entirely funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the Government of India (Gol). Each year, there are two stages to the scholarship exam: stage 1 (at the state level) and stage 2 (at the national level). While states are in charge of the first stage, NCERT is in charge of the second stage.

Eligibility Criteria for Stage I NTSE Exam

1. State and UT bodies manage NTSE Stage I. For this level, only Indian students are eligible.

2. The test can be taken by Class X students who are enroll.

3. They must have earned a grade of 60% or higher in Class IX during the most recent academic year.

4. A student must be enroll in an accredited school in the State or Union Territory in question.

5. Candidates from the SC, ST, and PH categories receive a 5 percent relaxation, and their Class IX grade point average must be at least 55%.

6. Students who are enroll in Open Distance Learning (ODL) are also eligible for the scholarship exam if they are under the age of 18 as of July 1 and are unemploy while taking the Class X exam.

Eligibility Criteria for Stage II NTSE Exam

Students who pass the State level exam with at least 80 percent are eligible to take the NCERT Stage-II exam at the national level. b. The nation’s shortlist for the National Level NTSE includes approximately 4,000 students. c. The scholarship program is open to all students who earn the minimum Stage-II marks.

Selection Process

The selection process for a scholarship award consists of two stages. States and UTs select candidates for Stage I through a written exam. Students who pass Stage I are eligible to take the NCERT Stage-II examination.

Each State and Union Territory is allocate a quota for stage II based on secondary student enrollment. Each paper’s qualifying marks are 40% for General Category candidates and 32% for SC, ST, and PH candidates.

This exam was previously administer to students in class X; however, due to a change in the pattern, it is now administer to students in class VIII. Beginning in 2011, the exam will once more be given to students in class X. NTSE Scholarships

Candidates who meet the requirements outlined in this brochure are eligible to receive a scholarship under the current program for courses in professional fields like medicine and engineering up to the second-degree level, as well as courses in science and social science up to the doctoral level. Currently, the country awards 2000 scholarships, with 15% reserved for SC, 7.5% reserved for ST, 27% reserved for other backward classes, and 4% reserved for students with benchmark disabilities.

NTSE Reservation

Students from underrepresented groups will be eligible for 15% scholarships, ST students will be eligible for 7.5% scholarships, and students from physically challenged groups will be eligible for 3% scholarships.

Selection

A two-step selection process is use to identify talent. The NCERT is in charge of the second stage selection at the national level, while each State/UT is in charge of the first stage selection. The scholarship will be award through a two-stage selection process. States and UTs will select candidates for Stage I through a written exam. Students who pass Stage I will be eligible to take the NCERT-organized Stage II exam.

Examination

The pattern of written test will be as follows:

  • Stage I examination at the State/UT level will contain of 2 parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which also includes Language Comprehensive Test.
  • Stage II examination at the National level will contain of (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT), (b) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which also includes Language Comprehensive Test.

Will NTSE be conducted in 2023?

The NTSE 2024 stage 1 will be held for Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Andaman & Nicobar islands on November 3 while for all other states and UTs (except West Bengal), it will be conducted on November 4, 2023. This year, NTSE 2024 West Bengal will take place separately on November 18, 2023.
