Asian Games 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) made the announcement on Tuesday that the Asian Games 2022, which were originally scheduled for September of this year, will now take place from September 23 to October 8, 2023.  The Asian Games were delayed in May because of the fast spread of Coronavirus in and around the host city of Hangzhou in China. The quadrennial event was to take place between September 10 and September 25, 2022. The Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) established a task force on May 6 to devise new dates that would not conflict with other major international sporting events the following year. The OCA would also like to thank the national Olympic committees, international/Asian federations, and other stakeholders for their patience.

The task force discussed the September-October 2023 window with the Chinese Olympic Committee, the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC), and other stakeholders.  The Asian Games, in its nineteenth release, will be held in China for the third time. In 1990, the Games were held in Beijing, and in 2010, the prestigious event was held in Guangzhou.  The Olympic Council of Asia released a statement that read, “The OCA thanks HAGOC, the Chinese Olympic Committee, and the governments at all levels for ensuring they (the Asian Games) can take place next year.” The development of all scenes and offices for the Asian Games 2022 was finished in April.

Asian Games 2023

The Cambodian president of the national Olympic committee, Thong Khon, made the announcement at the SEA Games Federation Council meeting in Singapore during the 2015 Southeast Asian Games. After Brunei withdrew its original rights to host the Games, the date for the Philippines to host them was pushed back to 2019. Due to the political situation in the country at the time, the 3rd Southeast Asian Peninsular (SEAP) Games in 1963 were postponed. This will be Cambodia’s first time hosting the games. There will be 40 sports at the event.

The Asian Games, which are held every four years, are an international sporting event that showcases the talent of athletes from various countries in Asia.
